Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Pours a hazy orange almost gold look with a bubbly white head that didnt last. Smells of oranges, hops, spice, lemons, and sweet light malt. Alot going on. Taste was mostly sweet malt with hints of citrus flavors, hops, and spice. Very refreshing.

Pours a hazy almost opaque orange with lively carbonation and a fluffy lasting whte head, and nice lace. Aroma is spicy- coriander and orange zest dominant with a strong ginger presence as well- light on the pepper, and a nice straight siason yeasty character. Light peppery flavor, lots of wheat and full malt backround with more orange and ginger, and finishes with a nice dry citrusy bitterness. Very soft carbonation in the mouthfeel and a very nice aftertaste. Very well made spiced saison.

Draft- a nice saison. Clean looking, yellowish/brown in appearance, cherries, bananas, bread in the aroma/ Correander big time. not in your face flavor, some wild yeastiness, but not as much as I was hoping. Not my favorite style.

25 oz bottle, via moejuck. Pours a hazy dark gold colored body with some very fine floaties mixing about under a large fluffy and foamy white head that showed typical Saison-like retention. Nose is quite spicy with lots of fruity esters, grassy hay, ginger, coriander, and yeast. Flavor follows aroma quite exactly, though I must say, this did seem quite a bit less heavy-handed on the spicing in the flavor than the SPF 45 I had not long ago. Finish is quite crisp and refreshing with a nice peppery kick. Mouthfeel is slightly fizzy and lively that lends a nice crispness in the finish. Slightly better than the bottle of SPF 45 I had, lending me to think good things about where this brewery is going with the new facility versus the old.

Pours a dirty straw-golden color. Aromas of yeast, flowers, and cheese. Promising. Flavor is almost a salty tripel malt flavor, very dy, poky bitterness (from the pepper maybe), lightly spicy in the finish, and very creamy. Good stuff, but perhaps it was too spicy.

Tried this a second time and sure enough, this beer suffered a bit by being near the end of a session. I thought it was all bitter spice, but there’s a nice dough sweetness in the aroma and flavor, it’s got a chewy body, and wonderfully funky and seasoned. There was something to the aroma that seemed a bit odd, but other than that, this is great.

Bottle sampled. Pours hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma of spices, citrus, and fruit. The flavor is spices, citrus, honey, clove, and finishes mildly bitter. Good brew.

Aroma of malts and pear and citrus. Pours an opaque light brown. Nice thick head with good lacing. Reminiscent of a hefeweizen with a light clove element intertwined with honey. Fairly sweet and moderately hopped for West Coast beer. Good mouthfeel.

Thanks to awaisanen for the trade. Pours a hazy golden orange with a large frothy/rocky head that left lots of spotty lacing down the sides of the glass. Aroma of various spices...ginger, orange, peppery with nice citrus notes and touches of floral honey. Heavy on the ginger...hard to cover that up though. Flavor of the same spices, spicy with nice hop bitterness, citrus notes, dry and bready. Spices a little more toned down in the flavor...but still fairly up front. Nice tasting and overall well made Saison. Spicy, dry and crisp with lots of various fruits and citrus like a nice Saison should.
