Commercial Description:
Perhaps no country embraces the use of fruit in beers more so than Belgium. Numerous traditional as well as regional specialty ales are infused with every sort of fruit imaginable. In this way, the flavor of the fruit becomes especially prominent. Red Poppy Ale is a veritable celebration of Sour Cherries in an explosion of aromas and tastes. Brewed from a brown ale base and aged in our oak barrels for over 6 months, this beer is not for the faint of heart. The Golden Poppy is the state flower of California and the Red Poppy is found in Flanders Fields where our inspiration for this beer comes from.

Old tasting notes from BA EBF 08. Poured dark hazy orange with a small white head. The aroma was fruity with some brett peaking its head through. Big sour cherry flavor with oak. Awesome sour.

Bottled. An unclear dark amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of wood, brettanomyces, alcohol, cherries, and other berries. The flavor is sweet and very spicy combined with an acidity and notes of caramel, wood, barnyard, vanilla, almonds, cherries, and other berries. The finish is tart.

Bottle. Andrew rocks! I’ve wanted to try this one for quite a while, thanks man! Pours brown red with a thin creamy head. Aromas of sour cherries, various tart fruits, and oak. Sour oak flavors. Cherries, red fruits, that are tart and finish dry. Fresh fruity, really nice sour.

Dark hazed brown, suspended sediment. Dusty cherry, old oak and notebook paper aroma. Outstanding character of pie cherry and oak. Dried gummy bing cherry density midpalate and more tart in the finish, great brown base as well. Excellent.

Bottle. Bit hazy reddish brown body with no head whatsoever. Very fruity aroma with sour cherries in front. The oak is also present. Medium bodied. Sour fruity flavour with a spice kick of cardemum, oak and light sour cherries. Lovely brew!

Thanks to TheCheeseMan for this! Pours a red-brown color with a flat head. Aroma is sweet sour funky, with some cherry and oak. Taste is much the same. Very smooth mouthfleel with almost no carbonation. Acidic cherry brown ale. Very good, but almost a bit too smooth and lacking some bite.

Thanks to my bro for sharing this! pours a reddish brown color with thin white head. Aroma is of intense sour cherry, oak, yeast funk, and mild hops. Taste is sour cherry, oak, some grainy malt, yeast and bretty funk. Mild carbonation and lightly dry palate. A great sour, but the carbonation is just a tad too light for me.
