Commercial Description:
Perhaps no country embraces the use of fruit in beers more so than Belgium. Numerous traditional as well as regional specialty ales are infused with every sort of fruit imaginable. In this way, the flavor of the fruit becomes especially prominent. Red Poppy Ale is a veritable celebration of Sour Cherries in an explosion of aromas and tastes. Brewed from a brown ale base and aged in our oak barrels for over 6 months, this beer is not for the faint of heart. The Golden Poppy is the state flower of California and the Red Poppy is found in Flanders Fields where our inspiration for this beer comes from.

This one poured a really nice ruby red color with basically no head. Aroma was very punch in the face sour with hints of cherries but not much. Flavor was very sour upfront, some dampness and then a nice very tart cherry finish. This is really good, but I would prefer supplication anyday.

(Bottled) Muddy brown with almost no head. Very pleasantly tart and dried-fruity aroma with berries. Sour-malty flavor with cherry fruitiness and oaky hints. Full body with very low carbonation. A full-bodied, balanced and pleasant sour ale.

Bottled (PBF). Deep red-brown color, no head. Sour cherry aroma with hints of sugar. Lactic cherry, fruity and tart. This is a simple sour beer, but in good way. Reminds me about some Flamish sour ales. Balanced.

Bottle shared by wolf at StateLine... Dark orange in color.. Musky sugar aroma with some cherries. Taste is sour.. not tart... just sour! Sour cherries was the only flavor I could pick up.. Not my favorite compared to all the others but not bad...

Bottle from Garrett. Thanks! Pours out a dark brownish red color without much of a head on it. Smell is full of cherries and sour funk, little bit of yeasty smell, and some oak smell too. Interesting. Taste is very lightly carbonated, in fact, it could be flat, but right at the back of the throat comes a little bit of CO2. Pretty sour on the taste, yet somehow it is pretty easy to drink. Reminds me of a lighter version of the cuvee. Good beer..

Bottle. Hazy reddish brown with a small off white head. Aromas of balsamic vinegar, caramel, oak, almonds, cherries and dark fruit. The flavour is tart and sour with notes of spice, wood, cherries and slight metallic.

Bottle. Thanks to the NJ/NY guys. This was great. Tart sour cherry aroma, which i could have smelled for forever. Palate was tart and sour, with some touches of sweetness. Cherry skins, and some soft wild bretty sourness. This beer was magical, and i could have drank it all night, very good!!!

Brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits cherry and almond, a little funk and a hint of oak. Extremely acidic, cherry and some oak flavour, leading to a coconut/oak finish
