Commercial Description:
Perhaps no country embraces the use of fruit in beers more so than Belgium. Numerous traditional as well as regional specialty ales are infused with every sort of fruit imaginable. In this way, the flavor of the fruit becomes especially prominent. Red Poppy Ale is a veritable celebration of Sour Cherries in an explosion of aromas and tastes. Brewed from a brown ale base and aged in our oak barrels for over 6 months, this beer is not for the faint of heart. The Golden Poppy is the state flower of California and the Red Poppy is found in Flanders Fields where our inspiration for this beer comes from.

Muddy brown, no head. Extremely sour aroma, some sweetness and fruitiness. Sour in the mouth, burns. But clear in the taste. Citrusy. Watery, fresh. Not bad, just not my taste. Purchased in Kihoskh for 125dkr. The most ridicilous price/quality I ever paid for a beer.

Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours a kind of dead muddy brown with a very slight head. Really sour and lactic on the nose, with a woody cherry note. Really tart and acetic in the mouth. It has a good sour woodiness to it, but it’s kind of thin and one-dimensional. Earthy. Definitely in the same vein as Cuvee de Tomme. Pretty good, but far from the best sour these guys make.

375m bottle scored via trade. Pours a translucent, nearly opaque, ruby red with a thin, faint, white head. Aroma was mild, sorta, lactic and acetic, spices, sticky fruits, slight wood. Flavor was also mild for a sour/kriek. Vinegar, fruits, apples, wood pulp, cherries, raisins. Medium bodied with a lasting sourness. This was good, very good even, but maybe a little overrated. I’ll cellar a bottle and see if the vinegar/lactic flavors round out over time.

Thanks to miketd for this one. Pour is murky brown with no head. Aroma is sourness, funk, wood, and cherries. Flavor is extremely sour up front (which i like). Cherries up front with vinegar sourness. Causes salivary gland to spasm. The sourness is balanced in the finish by the woody barrel flavors. Awesome beer.

Pours a watery reddish brown...mostly brown and a thin to non existent head. Aroma is heavy on the cherries with a little bit of wood. Rather sour palate with a big lean on the cherries, and a slight vinegar note as well. Really nice beer....glad to drink it.

Bottle with special thanks to coyotehunter. Body is a reddish brown and supports little head. Aromas of balsamic vinegar and tart cherries fill the nose and flavor follow ms closely on this path. This is a great sour!

First batch on DLD. Cloudy amber with small beige head. Aroma is sour, cinnamon, apple, a little tart. Tart, sour flavor, apple, cinnamon, a nice fruitiness, a little mettallic. Meidum body and carbonation. Really nice.

Pours reddish brown with no head. Thought that this might be a still beer, but there was some slight carbonation on the sides of the glass. Tart cherry flavors linger impressively on the finish.
