aspidites (1268), manteca, California, USA Mar 23, 2008 Dark brown with minimal head. Very soft alluring nose of funky cherries and a mild tannic grapeskin note. Soft and round palate with notes of prune, raisin, pomegranate and cherry with nice herbal bread characters. Could benefit from some more bottle time.
brewblackhole (1260), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Dec 26, 2008 aroma is pure oak barrel and its bacteria, fruit is certainly there ,but its hard to nail it down as cherries.Sour cherry comes through a little more in the taste ,but the oak the pleasing acidic tartness of lactobacillus still dominating factor. Looks like we are at the ponit where the barrel flavor is the main thing, which is fine ith me. Next up,an Imperial Sour? Thanks Kingpin LilBeerDoctor (797), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pours a dirty light brown with a small tan head. Aroma of yeasty funk, some cherry undertones. Flavor is sour and tart, with some acidity at first with light cherry fruits and cinnamon in the finish. This reminds me a bit of 3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse. Very nice.
fredandboboflo (771), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 9, 2008 Bottle. Aroma a fairly mellow blend of acidic notes, barnyard notes, oak, and the sour cherry, though not particularly distinct to me, more hidden with the woody and acidic notes than anything else. Flavor nice and sour, acidic with the continuing soft woody notes and sour fruit notes. Ever so slightly more gentle than I’d like it in the mouth. Still, very nice. Schultsc (436), Henderson, Nevada, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours a cloudy, medium mahogany brown with a very fine, thin, off-white head. Very prominent horse blanket/barnyard brettanomyces aromas with some acidic qualities and a very subtle, soft, sweet malt background with cherries, wood, and spice. The aromatic qualities flow directly into the flavor. There is more overt cherry flavor present and some more spice as well. The oak aging really softens things out pleasantly integrating the bold flavor characteristics together well into a coherent flavor profile. The body is light and delivers the many dimensions of this beer well as a straightforward presence in the mouth. The alcohol is appropriately mild and hardly noticeable making this a refreshingly complex and funky drinking experience. ucusty (1306), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Nov 29, 2008 Thanks to BlackForestCO for the bottle as part of NP10! This went great with Thanksgiving dinner especially with the turkey/gravy/cranberry trifecta . Hazy brown (with reddish hues) pour fluffy tan head and one ring of thin coated lace. Sour cherry aroma. Very complex flavor; raisins, grapes, oak, and brown sugar. Sweet then mildly sour & dry.
