Aroma is of chocolate, slight coffee, roasty, licorice, and some sweeter dough. Taste is very similar to Founders Breakfast Stout. It has a lot of chocolate with some hints of coffee. It is very dry. This leaves a nice chocolaty aftertaste. An excellent brew! Tripplebrew (493), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2009 Black with a small black beige head that quickly settles into a fine ring of lacings.
Not an overly powerful smell, but still with a pleasant character of roasted malts and delightful fruity notes. Quite a lot of coffee. Hints of chocolate and vanilla.
The taste is somewhat sweet with gently roasted malts and coffee to the fore. Fruits are more muted than in the smell. Some tannins. Notes of chocolate. The finish is somewhat bitter with a faint salty note of licorice, and a hint of wood. The alcohol provides a nice warming sensation, but not much to the flavors. All in all, quite tasty and balanced nut not overly powerful or complex.
Full bodied with a velvety texture. Mild carbonation seems to fit the laid back character of the beer well.
I think I was expecting more from this. Still a good beer, though. It’s well composed, but it could use a bigger spectrum or aromas and flavors.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 2, 2009 Bottle courtesy of ogivlado who shared it with me and heavy (huge thanks!) Poured an opaque black (very dark red possibly) body with a small brown head that went away slowly. A pungent, chewy almost sweet malty aroma wafted from the glass. Some roastiness and maybe some dry dust. A lighter roasty, sweetish malty taste, very nice, giving out nice light notes of chocolate and coffee. Not much alcohol, a balanced imperial stout, very nice.
