Bottle at the Lost Abbey dinner. Pours opaque black with a small milk chocolate head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, bitter baking chocolate, and some coffee. Very similar flavour plus some anise and a little caramel. Creamy mouthfeel and could not find the 11 ABV.

750 mL bottle shared by cdumler. Thanks! Pours a thick murky inky black (tm) with a medium head, Good head retention and fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, tobacco and faint fruity & caramel notes. Taste is roasted malts, caramel and faint fruity notes. Full bodied.

On tap at the Monk’s Kettle in San Fran. Pitch black pour with a one finger beige head. Big coffee and chocolate aroma, kind of smells like ice cream actually. Does an excellent job of masking its alcohol under a thick milk shake like mouth with huge chocolate flavor and mild backbeats of coffee and licorice. Not the most complex beer I’ve ever tasted, but a key example in why not all beer NEEDS to be complex.

Draught at City Beers, SF Black with a beige head. Very dark roasted; Chocolate and some mussels. Slightly sourish. Loads of chocolate and warming alcohol in the flavour. Soft and smooth and very pleasant.

750 pours deep inky black with a bubbly tan head that quickly fades ti a ring. Espresso, chocolate, licorice, and sweet cream. Spiced beginning with a great bold yet mellow body for an 11% abv. Extremely smooth with a chocolate milk shake taste and aftertaste. A bit of bitter chcolate at the end. Very will done and not overdone for the style. Nice job Port Brewing.

Had last night bottle shared by MiguelMandingo. Thanks Mike! Poured a 1 finger gorgeous brown head. Fine bubbles from the laser etching on my New Belgium snifter glass caused the foam to hang around. Some lacing on the glass. Thick and black. Aroma is like chocolate ice cream. Chocolatey and sweet. A slight amount of hops. Maybe some cinnamon. Taste is roasty, chocolatey dried fruit, some bitterness. Big chocolate aftertaste that lingers for awhile. This one is a real slow sipper. The alcohol is nowhere to be found in this beauty. Mouthfeel: a little bit thick but ok for the style. Drinkability: Good but very rich. I could drink a whole bottle but it would take all day. A wonderful RIS. Not a style that you would think Lost Abbey would be good at but they’ve nailed it. Serving type: bottle

750ml corked and caged. Pours balck with a small mocha head. Aromas of chocolate, malted milk, roasted malts, and coffee. Flavors are sweet chocolate up front, roasted malts and a bitter coffee/chocolate finish. Palate is rich and velvety.

Night black body with supple, creamy chocolate head. Sharp roasty chocolate notes billow from the glass. Veins of alcohol throb. Roast barley contributes dryness. Smooth, rich creamy mouthfeel. Complex roast barley on the palate with deep notes, plenty of chocolate, dark chocolate, malt, and alcohol. This is a robust chocolate imperial stout packing an alcohol wallop.
