Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a deep black with a tan ring. Aroma of malt, chocolate, wood, and a nice hint of smoke. Rich taste, of toasted malt, chocolate, wood, and an alcohol bite. Lingering sharp malt and alcohol. Very tasty imperial stout.

This is a unique stout. I pick up an almost cocoa something like suntan oil sweetness from this stout.I like the fact that it steps outside the norm of all others with the flavors not being to overwhelming to any one area. Nice balance with roasted malts and seems like there is some added sugar here as well. All in all a great offering...

25 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a dark chocolate brown head. Rather fizzy looking head, lots of visible carbonation. Huge roasty nose with some chalk, burnt malt, dark fruits, yeast, light alcohol, even a little licorice. The more I smelled it the more a big milk chocolate aspect arose. Very burnt roasty flavor, some roasted peanuts, heavy dark candied fruits, kinda chalky on the finish with a little alcohol heat. A lot of bitterness going on here. Heavy thick texture with too much fizzy effervescent carbonation that actually kind of ruined the overall experience for me. Sticky alcoholic finish. Big for sure, but certainly not better. Not impressed with this effort.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of dark fruit, some sweet caramel, soy sauce, coffee. Tastes sweet and bitter with a ton of coffee on the finish.

Pours black with deep brown 2 finger head. One of the darkest heads I have seem. Aroma and flavor are similar - roasted malt, licorice, coffee, chocolate. Licorice is very apparent at the front of the tongue (not my preference) but aftertaste is coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and lush. If the licorice was not so dominant, I would have rated this higher. All in all, not bad, and I enjoyed the full 750ml.

pours opaque black with a fairly dark brown one inch head which has some purple hues in it. crazy retention and slug-like lacing. lots of rich roasty malt aroma without a lot of astringency or char... molasses, chocolate, tar, mellow nutty coffee and some black raisins. the flavor on this thing is a monster... very robust mix of roast, dark bitter chocolate, belgian-esque yeast, black raisins, spice, florals and phenols. it is sweet but not overly and is well suited to match the bitterness. nearly full bodied but the airy soft carbonation gives it a creamy light mouth feel on the tongue. it*s very feminine yet very powerful.

this is significantly less chocolate-y than it was a year ago but the roasty bitterness is developing nicely. when it was fresh it could be poured over shaved ice to make a chocolate flavored snow cone! 8/4/8/4/17/4.1

Bottle. Black color with dark tan head. Flavor and aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit. Well balanced.

Pours a black color, almost purple, with very little head. The bouquet is full of chocolate, plums, dates and other dried fruits. Full of flavor, this has just the right amount of toast and a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Another great offering from Lost Abbey.
