Oct 31, 2009 750ml bottle from Grant. Pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of molasses chocolate, coffee and cinnamon. The flavor is bittersweet chocolate with lots of roasted bitterness and a light alcohol taste. Full body average carbonation and a thick smooth mouth feel. Overall a nice Imp Stout, just not sure it’s worth the Lost Abbey premium.

Oct 31, 2009 2009 version. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aromas of roasted chocolate. Flavors of chocolate and molassas. Nice lingering finish with some palate cleansing carbonation. Alcohol is not noticable and very well integrated. Medium to full bodied mouthfeel. Overall a very excellent stout.

Oct 31, 2009 Bottle courtesy of rallison, probably close to a year ago. Finally cracked open for Halloween. Pours thick and inky black with nearly two-finger mocha head. Nose is sweet, roasty, creamy, and nutty. Some licorice and soy as well as the more common chocolate and espresso notes. Perhaps a bit of oxidation on the nose. A bit harsh and astringent, but overall a lovely beer.

Oct 30, 2009 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted and strong coffee, moderate resin for the hops, and earth for the yeast, with prune and tar in the background. Head is small, creamy, brown with no lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and moderately acidic, then the extra long finish is moderately acidic and harshly bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a soft carbonation and a lightly astringent and dry finish. A powerful mouthfilling Imperial Stout. A little harsh in some spots, but wow is this good.

Oct 27, 2009 Dark brown pour. Ho head. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol content is hidden very well, not too boozy or hot. Licorice, wood, and vanilla up front. Back end hits you with roasted coffee, chocolate, and a hint of brown sugar. All in all a very good stout, but not my favorite. I like my stouts a little more roasty, that’s all.

Oct 24, 2009 Pours a deep black color with a dark brown head. Flavor is roasted malty coffee deep chocolate and roasted malts. Hop profile on the back end is minimal. Full bodied and lingering. A solid well made stout.

Oct 20, 2009 Bottle split with Pat. Pours a dark coca cola body with small brown head and good lacing. The aroma is extremely unique - some subdued coffee roast, chocolate malts, and something else that I can’t quite describe. The flavor is incredibly smooth, esp considering the 11% abv. Medium to full mouthfeel, with notes of coffee and chocolate. One of the best stouts.

Oct 18, 2009 Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet roast malt, chocolate, and a little coffee. Flavor is much the same with hints of vanilla, and booze.
