Poured an opaque black (very dark red possibly) body with a small brown head that went away slowly. A pungent, chewy almost sweet malty aroma wafted from the glass. Some roastiness and maybe some dry dust. A lighter roasty, sweetish malty taste, very nice, giving out nice light notes of chocolate and coffee. Not much alcohol, a balanced imperial stout, very nice.

A hint of warming alcohol. Just what I seek in a stout like this. Full but not sticky bodied, with a long cocoa bitter end. Damn’ good! Father forgive me, I’m a sinner... ericandersnavy (1141), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2009 750 ml. from The Red House in Renton. Nice viscous pour. Nice blac opaque body. Really nice looking beer. Fairly sweet (the roasted malts are killer). Coffee aroma is coming through as well. The subtle chocolate aroma is coming through quite well. Damn, that is a nice roasty, coffee, sweet malt flavor. Just very well balanced. There is more roast than anything, but you notice the chocolate, roast, and coffee right away. A well rounded stout. Nice touches of vanialla sweetness. If I weren’t competely trashed this may be a bit different. Heay malt presence, but there is a nice old aged bourbon/bottle conditioned leather/wood/bourbon flavored taste. There are a lot of nuances in this beer. I thought this would not be carbonated, but boy I was wrong. Silphium (2160), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 26, 2009 Bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown/black body, medium-thin ochre head. Rich, complex nose, with milk chocolate, dark fruits (plum, cherry, berries), roasted malts, and warming wisps of alcohol. Silky, soft body with plummy chocolate, marshmallow, and charred roasted malts, enhanced by warming alcohol. Good heft. An excellent, rich stout. Slayer85 (594), Firenze, Italy
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2009 750 ml corked bottle. An opaque black beer with a small, mostly lasting brown head. The aroma is extremely powerful and rather complex, heavily malty, lightly hoppy and yeasty with notes of roasted grains, chocolate, coffee, alcohol and a hint of dark fruits. The flavour is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Quite clean. Medium to full body, average carbonation, long finish with medium bitterness, moderately alcoholic. Very good stout with a light Belgian touch. I’d definately buy this again. clingman71 (261), Centerville, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Wow. what a beer! So smooth and drinkable for 11%, the alcohol is well hidden. It has all the usual characteristics of a good Imperial Stout, but has a little of the sightly sweet dark fruit thing going on like the strong Belgians. Excellent!!!!!! | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Bottle, pours like old motor oil with this tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet fruit and smokey mustiness. Taste roasted malty sweetness then hard tongue curling bite of alcohol, smokey, thick. I like it a lot. I just wish we could get it in Ohio
