drewbeerme (1624), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 1, 2008 750ml bottle. 2008 vintage. pours black with creamy dark swirling tan head. an amazing looking head. a big roasty and yeasty nose with bakers chocolate and dark fruits. flavors are dark chocolate, dark fruits, nutty, and yeasty. a really chewy mouth feel. the alcohol is a tad boozy which i think will mellow with a year of aging. a great beer now however.
bitbucket (1425), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 4, 2008 750, corked and baled. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Pours opaque, nearly black with a lacy tan head. Creamy full body, heavy on the chewiness, light on the carbonation. The aroma and taste are sweet and full of goodness: Coffee, chocolate, licorice, brown sugar, figs, nuts, molasses. This is one tasty beer! thickfreakness (2), Austin, Texas, USA does not count Jul 2, 2008 Thanks to med.
This pours a dark brown/black with a dense mocha colored head that lasts for some time but leaves little lacing on the glass. It smells of heavily of burnt/roasted malts, followed by dark fruits, chocolate, and booze. Taste follows from smell with plenty of roastiness and chocolate and a warming, bitter, drying finish. Full bodied and easy going down.
GregClow (2271), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2008 Bottle (750ml) shared at ’Biegaman’s Second Annual Saison Tasting’ -- courtesy of grub. Deep brown-black with a small tan head. Aroma of hazelnut, roasted malt and dried cocoa. Full bodied, very nice mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet and malty to start, with a bit of fruitiness, followed by some tartness and yeast, and a warm, drying finish. Interesting and quite good. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 26, 2008 This corked and caged bottled brew from a rating party poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized dark brown colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lacing and an opaque dark brown colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was mildly vinous with hop malt dark malt and brown malt notes. The mouth feel was tingly and crisp. The flavor contained notes of crisp hops coffee and dark malts. bsierra (129), Vista, California, USA Jun 25, 2008 Had on tap at the San Diego Fair’s beer festival. Pours black as night with aromas of dark chocolate, roast, coffee, sweet vanilla. Taste starts out super rich and sweet, and then on the end you get a nice roasty, bitter kick ass stout. Insane and very tasty~
