DavidP (1710), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 8, 2008 Viscous black body under a huge tan head. Roasty dark chocolate and raisin aroma. The flavor starts with a kick of creamy oatmeal and is then replaced by acidic roast, chocolate, and dark fruits. A good I.S. but it’s marred by too-high carbonation. Nice oatmeal element however.
RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 3, 2008 750ml bottle. Aroma: Chocolate cupcakes, raisins, coffee, roasted malt. Some light alcohol as it warms. Appearance: Deep black in color with no highlights. Dark tan head was full and creamy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt with notes of cocoa, smoke, and espresso. Raisins, bananas, and yeast. Finishes fairly dry. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation. Light alcohol warmth in back of mouth. Overall: Well balanced, flavorful, and a good drinker. Another solid beer from LA. LooseCannon (660), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2008 750ml bottle, Thanks to Immy for this one. Pours pitch black in color with brown head. Aroma chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste creamy, chocolate and roasted malt with bitter finish. The_Epeeist (937), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 26, 2008 25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a whipped tan head. Nose is chocolate, banana and brown bread; deeper earth and grass. Thick, creamy and warming like an ice cream soda spiked with liqueur. Taste is espresso, dates, licorice, toffee and dark chocolate. Smooth finish, cafe au lait. I’m surprised to see such an intense stout from the Lost Abbey. Exceptional. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2008 Dry dark fruit aromatics that suggest...ta da..dried fruits. Slightly soapy scrubbed plastic notes as well. Some chocolate and boozy alcohol as well. The body od dark brown to near black with ruby highlights and holds a thin mocha colored head that is somewhat lasting. Tastes of stewed root veggies, cocoa powder, dust and astringent/roasted malts. The finish is fairly bitter. BrotherGrendel (138), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 On draft at Lost Abbey.
