Dark pour, russet with some gleams but also some murky depths. Very faint carbonation. Rich aroma of dark cherries, a touch of funk, some promiment wood. Interesting notes of leather and mahogany in the brew, tweaking the dark sour, almost oud bruin-ish character - maybe a bit of Cuvee de Tomme in there. Vinous character comes to the fore the further you get into it, then a long, very dry finish, a la Red Poppy. Another superb beer from these folks. jimbowood (953), Athens, Georgia, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Dark brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is somewhat sour, with some wine, oak, caramel, and cherries. Flavor is sour cherries, oak, dark fruit, and some caramel. This is the way to do a sour beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Pours a cloudy dark brown with a moderate light tan head, fades to a small ring somewhat quickly. Aroma is really nice and has something very everyone. Noticably sour with vinegar, mustard, oak, dust, grass and rounded out with cinnemon, brown sugar, pecans, and just a hint of bourbon (or something like it). Some vanilla was there earlier. Awesome nose! Flavor is a bit more tart with a dry mustardy flavor, wood, red wine (pretty tannic), oak, cherry, cinnemon, and leaves/earth. Finishes dry with wood, dust, almost roasty bitterness and a slight lingering sour sensation. This was really really drinkable though, and not as tannic-driven as Cuvee de Tomme. Soft mouthfeel, creamy at first but slickens after time to fit other sour ales. Medium bodied, far from thin. Great aroma and nicely balanced in other aspects. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Misty wonderfulness cascades out of the bottle upon opening. Pours a very deep reddish brown, with a slight head, nice tiny bubbles, well conditioned. Fairly clear pour for only settling for a day or so. Aroma is tannic, leathery, intensely woody with red wine accents - very nice. Flavor is wine, wet wood, sour cherry, and carmelized sugars. The sour and tannic aspects of the flavor are a little over the top. Intense, and needs to integrate.I like these Sinners beers of 2008 - I think they are good to very good generally, but RR kicks LA’s ass - I just have to say it. Dough77 (774), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2008 A bit underwhelmed on this one. It was solid but at no point did I feel it got above "pretty good" Murky brownish pour, small light brown head. Nose was a bit tart with cherries. Moutfeel just seemed off, maybe a little too dry for me? maybe. Just kinda died, hit the mouth with flavors abound then bam the sour tartness, the fruity flavors, the oaky wineness that is there leaves. Not a bad offering, just not quite what I was hoping for. cbkschubert (1968), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Faint lacing. Aroma is tart esters and something sweet. Flavor is also tart esters and brown sugar. Medium body. Has a tart aftertaste. A decent beer, but not my style. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA
