Aroma is dark fruit skins, tart cherry, sour, light funk and oak; everything melds together nicely as it warms. Flavor is also quite nice, with a persistent but well balanced sourness, only slightly acidic up front, but quickly diminishes to a smooth mouthfeel, with black cherry, plum, and more oak. I’m not surprised, but still certainly impressed with the subtle and delicate nature of how this is put together. Good stuff, and a nice way to break my ratings drought! ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Updated: Sep 30, 200812.7oz bottle. Pours a murky, dark reddish-brown color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of tannic red fruits, lightly tart cherries and citrus, and pleasant red wine notes in the aroma; not explosive, but generous, well-blended, and softly tart. Lively carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of pitty red fruits, lightly tart citrus, and a bit of tannic, vinous character; I like the blending aspect, but it still really doesn’t come across as a complete package just yet: lightly tannic, a touch chalky, with solid acidity. There are moments where it suggests greatness (I’m thinking of Le Woody Brune), and maybe this will become even better with some time behind it. Currently: slightly muddled in the mouth. Lengthy finish: lots of red fruits, lingering citrus tartness and acidity, and touches of lightly toasted oak.
