| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 15, 2009 Big thanks to JB175 for this bottle. Pours dark, muddy brown - almost black without light shining through it - with a dense, creamy head that fades to a light foam. Sure smells like a dream - very similar to the LA Brouwer’s Blend. Tart cherries, grapefruit, lots of funk (I share Tomme’s passion for brett), some sweet, roasty malts for complexity and yes - some balsamic vinegar. Not quite as powerful as the Brouwer’s blend was, but this is still delicious - funky and wonderfully tart, with just enough sweetness to keep it from going over the edge. This is definitely a darker sour - typical of the blends that come from LA - and it has a great depth and complexity that you don’t often find, even in good sours. Oak barrels, for sure, some darker fruit... yum! ajm (922), Los Angeles, California, USA

My great thanks, as I never thought I would see this one. The black and red label is appropriate, as this is a near-black liquid with flecks of red. Nice hellish conceit. Nose is dark, sharp and truly cheesy. Only light wood in aroma. Flavor also thick, dark: berry, mold, tart quadrupel fruit, that Trappist flavor, sharp grapefruit. The best Lost Abbey sour I have experienced. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA
