rcreation (1), Union City, California, USA does not count Mar 28, 2009 2008 bottle. Poured into a snifter. Deep brown with a very active head that grew as it sat. Overly carbonated but wonderful aroma of caramel, vanilla, bourbon. Very full flavored: molasses, dark fruit. bourbon & oak, alcohol not overpowering but clearly part of the package. Enjoyable, but I was expecting phenomenal
Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Mar 26, 2009 Pours dark brown with some stray bubbles. Smells of oak, sour, molasses, dark fruit. Tastes Sweet and fruity and boozy with a sour finish. Not seeing the allure. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Mar 25, 2009 2008 Vintage - 12.7 oz. bottle. I drank this bottle last night in honor of my father’s birthday; he would have been 74. God bless you, Dad. Pours a very dark brown, just about black, with a large brown head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left a web of lace. Very pleasant aroma of caramel, vanilla, bourbon with a few notes of raisin in there as well. The flavor is equally enjoyable with caramel, vanilla and bourbon, although I am not getting the fruit notes I picked up in the aroma. Fairly smooth on the palate with some mild heat from the alcohol approaching the swallow. This one is a sipper for sure. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Mar 20, 2009 2008 bottle rating #700. poured a cola color with a frothy foam head that crackled initially with the high carbonation. aroma has molasses, bourbon soaked barrel, vanilla, and dark dried fruit. rich and hearty. the first sip coats the mouth completely and the carbonation is quite high. flavor has plenty of bourbon, barrel wood, rich dark fruit, molasses sweetness, and some alcohol. I will say the 12.7 oz bottle size is just right and the bottle itself is cool, no need for a 750 of this. certainly rich with lots of complexity. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Mar 16, 2009 2008 Release 12.7 oz bottle poured into a snifter - thanks to Jake65. I have really been looking forward to The Angels Share... and it really did not disappoint... the hype surrounding this beer is proven to be true... I just don’t know about the price tag. I really don’t think a 750ml bottle of Angels Share is worth $30... I would rather have $30 of other (better) beer than 1 bottle of Angels Share... but that’s just me. Having said that... this one is loaded with carbonation (as others have mentioned) and takes away from the beer for the first half of the glass.... huge 3 finger tan head which slowly came down a bit to 2 fingers - deep deep brown / light black in color. A true beauty... needless to say. Huge bourbon aromas seep out of the bottle and glass. At first the carbonation really takes hold of the upper palate... letting the bourbon notes fill the mouth, while creating a thinner body. As the beer warms and reaches the lower portion of the glass, the carbonation dissipates and The Angels Share becomes something much greater. The body is stronger and more alive with flavors of deep dark fruits, some oak, lots of vanilla and of course bourbon. A really strong finish completes this one with more bourbon and a slight alcohol burn. I am so glad I got to have a bottle of this and look forward to having the Brandy Barrel version one day. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Mar 12, 2009 ’06 vintage at FoBAB. Dark brown to black with tan creamy head. Bourbon, chocolate, sweet aroma with little oxidation charecteristics. Flavor is well balanced bourbon to malt ratio with the oxidation finally coming out in the flavor like cherry but matches very well with the vanilla. Medium body with okay carbonation. Very barrel forward. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Mar 8, 2009 Bottle. 2008 edition. Thought I had rated this, but I guess I haven’t. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, oak. Flavor was really smooth, but did not measure up to some of my favorite barrel aged BW’s; like Old Salty. Still it was good. Roasted malt, molasses, caramel, vanilla and cocoa predominate; not much fruitiness, which could have helped for my tastebuds. Good, but due to price probably the last time I’ll have this. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 thanks mar... pours black with thick fizzy head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon?, doghouse funk, sweet malts. Flavor is coffee, bourbon, caramel, burnt malts and vanilla.... drinks smooth, with some burn. Delightful.
