BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with a small, fizzy, off-white head, somewhat lasting with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), average hops (flowers, perfume), heavy yeast (dough, leather) with notes of average alcohol, plum, date, wood, maple syrup, and vanilla. Full bodied, thick texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. lassem (296), Copenhagen, Denmark Jan 3, 2009 Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours with a high carbonation - be carefull. Pours a dark brown with a high tanned light brown head.. The nose is very special - there is coconuts, oaks from the bourbon barrels, dry fish food, cellery and bloody meat. The taste is very dominated of the bourbon barrels, there is rye, frozen steel with a smooth sweet finish and creamy palate... for me there is too much bourbon..but its good. masonjer (557), Holt, Michigan, USA Jan 2, 2009 Huge thanks to Solan who gave me this beer as a bonus in a trade. Rediculous I know. Poured a dark brown color with a large head. Nose was vanilla and strong bourbon. Taste was much the same. This felt quite one dimensional to me. Big caramel sweetness througout and only alcohol and bourbon to tone it down. Not hard to drink by any means, but not living up to the hype. Thanks again solan for the chance to try this. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Dec 28, 2008 Updated: Apr 5, 2009Crushed with Jakebra. This is not fair. No beer should be this awesome. Fuckin a. Cant describe it. The most euphoric beer Ive had so far. Definitely almost angelic. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Dec 21, 2008 375ml bottle. Dark brow/reddish pour with a tan head. Very malty, some woddy notes as well, lots of dark fruits, super rich. More dark fruits in the flavor as well, raisins are really prominent to me. Some bourbon notes in the back of the throat, very warming and very tasty. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Dec 20, 2008 375 ml bottle (9/18/08) Courtesy of Hopscotch CU/WVU throwdown)-Pours a dark brown with a nice small tan head. The cork flew out of the bottle upon opening. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, dried fruit, alcohol, and molasses. Flavor was the same with the bourbon mxed in throughout. This full bodied brew is the best Barley Wine Ive ever tasted. Very well balanced, Awesome. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Dec 12, 2008 Sweet, sticky, rich, roasty and warm...Cork ejects with a big pop which leads to just a bit of gushing. Pours dark brown with about a finger or so of tan head that recedes to a thin lasting layer. Sweet, rich, deep aroma of caramelized sugar, raisin, roastiness, creme brulee, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Oh yeah. Mouthfeel initially just kind of average with a bit of fizziness/light prickliness that detracts a bit but eventually settles out to a warmer, smoother palate, becoming lightly silky. Fairly sticky esp. in finish. Some light fine rings of lacing and a syrupy film inside snifter. Flavor of caramelized sugar, raisin, roast, molasses and a touch of bourbon. Hot but it is kind of a smooth alcohol presence. As it warms the oak and vanilla emerge more amd meld with the other flavors. Medium-bitter bite through finish. Lovely and big. Rating 1K down the hatch. Mucho thanks to IrishBoy for the treat of this 375 ml bottle. luttonm (274), Belgrade, Serbia Dec 12, 2008 07 Draft at Brouwers Big Wood 2008. Big. big roasty maple syrup, grain, earthiness. Heavy, bright carbonation that explodes in the mouth. Palate bomb, like straight juice. Intense woodiness with sugery malt. not intensely sticky but very coating. The most flavorful beer ive ever had. fascinating, one of a kind beer. and lovely to have again, and on tap no less
