07 Draft at Brouwers Big Wood 2008. Big. big roasty maple syrup, grain, earthiness. Heavy, bright carbonation that explodes in the mouth. Palate bomb, like straight juice. Intense woodiness with sugery malt. not intensely sticky but very coating. The most flavorful beer ive ever had. fascinating, one of a kind beer. and lovely to have again, and on tap no less

On TAP at Brouwer’s Big Wood 08. Pours dark – as black as a stout – with a great off-white head. DEEP aroma – a ton of malts, reminds me of something breakfasty – a deep, roasty maple syrup, maybe. Bourbon. Oak. The flavor is just huge – it explodes when it hits your tongue unlike anything else I’ve had. Incredibly thick, but still clean and dry. I still think it’s a bit too sweet, and I’d love to try something like this that has a bit better balance. There’s a roastiness that comes through at the end. This is about as full-bodied as it is possible to make a beer. Points for novelty.

2008 botling. Dark, nearly opaque mahogany brown with red highlights at the rim. Big, fluffy, medium-tan head on the pour dissipates into a fine, thin layer. The nose is redolent of sweet, dark, caramel malt with vanilla, oak, Bourbon, and alcohol top notes with golden raisins, toffee, molasses, and dark brown sugar base notes. Dark, sweet, malt notes again in the flavor along with a soft smokiness, molasses, and brown sugar. There is caramel and woodinessas well alongside pleasant aged and oxidized characteristics with a very slight bitter tartness in the finish. The body is full, but oddly light-feeling. This is in contrast to the big, dense body with heavy thickness on the palate that one might expect from a beer of this type. It is a refreshing surprise and adds a new dimension to this very interesting beer.

Bottle shared with fellow beeradvocate kplynch! I Can’t thank you enough for popping this baby open for our small tasting! Apperance: Copper-golden with a medium sized head which is beige/white in apperance. Aroma: Vanilla, Bourbon, Caramel, Fruit, Chocolate. The nose is incredibly inviting! Flavor: Vanilla, Bourbon, Cocoa, Ripe fruit, Toffee. I sipped away slowly on this one. Palate: Varm and filling. Medium carbonation with a nice complexity and balance. One of the best barrel-aged beers i’ve had in a loooong time. If you can get hold of this baby, try it!

Bottle: Dark brown pour with ruby tones. Big beige head. Aroma is sweet, faded hops and bourbon barrel notes. Roasty. Taste is a smooth blend of soft barrel notes with roastiness. Vanilla. Faded hops into a nice oaky tail. Smooth and delicious.

Bottle: Thanks Jake65! Dark brown, tan head and light lacing. Nose of vanilla and toasty cherry with ample oak and caramel. Ample wood notes along with the vanilla. Low alcohol and grapes. Nice bitterness and sweetness along with the tannins and vanilla. So barrel aged. Yummy!
