Bottle shared with fellow beeradvocate kplynch! I Can’t thank you enough for popping this baby open for our small tasting! Apperance: Copper-golden with a medium sized head which is beige/white in apperance. Aroma: Vanilla, Bourbon, Caramel, Fruit, Chocolate. The nose is incredibly inviting! Flavor: Vanilla, Bourbon, Cocoa, Ripe fruit, Toffee. I sipped away slowly on this one. Palate: Varm and filling. Medium carbonation with a nice complexity and balance. One of the best barrel-aged beers i’ve had in a loooong time. If you can get hold of this baby, try it!

Bottle at home - shared with Mette. Dark dark brown - light brown head. Bourbin, vanilla, coconut, oak, wood, chocolate, berries, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, roasted, caramel, light butterscotch, licorice. Very complex. Heavy -> powerfull & fullbodied.

Bottle: Dark brown pour with ruby tones. Big beige head. Aroma is sweet, faded hops and bourbon barrel notes. Roasty. Taste is a smooth blend of soft barrel notes with roastiness. Vanilla. Faded hops into a nice oaky tail. Smooth and delicious.

Bottle: Thanks Jake65! Dark brown, tan head and light lacing. Nose of vanilla and toasty cherry with ample oak and caramel. Ample wood notes along with the vanilla. Low alcohol and grapes. Nice bitterness and sweetness along with the tannins and vanilla. So barrel aged. Yummy!

Bottle pours very dark brown color with tan head that laces and lasts the entire glass. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, and earth tones. Has a heavy body. Flavor is oak, bourbon, alcohol, caramel malts add a nice sweetness. Overall, this is a brew that lives up to the hype. I had read reports that this was beginning to sour so I decided to open it. Not with this one. Not a single sour note. The flavors meld together nicely. This would have been even better given more time.

Pours opaque ruby brown with a ring of bubbles. Nose is bourbon and bourbon alone. Fortunately, the taste rounds out the bourbon with vanilla, oak, chocolate, and cocoa powder. Sadly, and probably because of the build-up to finally having this beer, it left me wanting more. Not complaining, this was excellent, but I still wanted more.

FoBAB 2008, Chicago: The program lists this as the 2006 batch. This poured a deep brown body with a nice head. The aroma was heavy on the whiskey foolowed by a strong caramel sweetness, a touch of vanilla, and plenty of alcohol. Very malt-centric to the taste with lots of booze and alcohol. It finished on a low alcohol burn. Not bad, but the way folk were raving, I was expecting a lot more.

Fobab VI. 2006 version. This was one I was definitely looking forward to and made me really want to try the Brandy barrel version, as I would expect it to be light years ahead of this one. Has a nice, big body. Nose is lots of Vanilla and more distinctly bourbon than most bourbon barrel beers. More akin to an Old Ale at this stage with a robust, deep brown body and loads of caramel malts. Very big, lots of alcohol, though clean tasting. Caramel and just enough bitterness to keep it from cloying. Damn, really want to try the Bourbon one now...
