dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Apr 27, 2008 375 ml bottle shared by jimmack, thanks Jim for sharing this one. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, oak, alcohol and slight toffee. Pours a super murky muddy brown, I did have the last bit of the bottle so maybe it was slightly extra murky, and a small off white creamy head. Nice creamy medium to full body with light carbonation. Flavor of bourbon, vanilla, oak and alcohol. I really enjoyed this one and thanks to the fight night drinking crew being slefless my bottle wasn’t even opened and can be shared at a later date. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 27, 2008 Beautiful dark amber brown pour with a nice creamy tan head that lasts forever and leaves wondeful lacing. Sweet malt, caramel, fruit, chocolate and vanilla in the aroma. Also a bit of some woodiness. Smells fantastic. Wonderful flavor as well. All of the above with smoke and cherry. Creamy medium body, with a nice warming sensation on the finish. Truly a great brew. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 26, 2008 Thanks for sharing Yaniv! Heavens to Mergatroid, what a lovely beer! Dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Sweet round malty nose. Vanillay bourbon. Fruity chocolate. Caramel, toasty oak. All flavors fused seamlessly. I think there might be some alcohol in here, but it smells like fumes from heaven. Full creamy body. Full soft mouth. Big ass flavor attack in my mouth making magic happen all the time like it is its job. Alcohol is there, no doubt. Sweet round malt. Chocolate. Vanilla. Fruity oaky cherry. Toasty charred up bourbon goodness. Alcohol again. Lingering toasty fruity. Some chocolate in the finish. Full rich and yummy. I’d love to get my hands on some of this magic! TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Immy. Thanks Tim! Corked and caged. Dark bronze. Nose is vanilla, bourbon, wood, caramel, and maple syrup. Taste is wood/oak, vanilla, sweet malts, bourbon, caramel and sweet syrupy notes. Very tasty! Body is creamy with soft carbonation. Medium overall feel. Ends with more caramel, bourbon, vanilla, sweet malts, toffee, and syrup. Yummy! Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Apr 25, 2008 Courtesy of Immy at the 6th Richmond Gathering. Deep brown, nice head. Bready with some raisins in the aroma. A touch of vanilla as well. Flavor matches, but I am not adequately expressing the depth and richness of these flavors. Some slight bourbon notes on the finish perhaps, but this is a beer where the barrels simply accentuate as opposed to dominate. Excellent stuff. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle shared by kmweaver. Thanks. Poured an opaque dark brown color. Head was khaki with good retention and lacing. Good looking beer. Aroma was of bourbon, vanilla, and brown sugar. Sweet on the tongue and boozy with bourbon, raisin, brown sugar, and toffee flavors. Creamy, medium to full bodied mouth feel. Good stuff. Not over-bourbonated, some might say. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 24, 2008 Pours a deep dark brown to blackish color with a medium sized head. Aroma of bourbon, malt, vanilla, brown sugar and maybe some coffee or chocolate. Flavor is very complex, first the bourbon attacks then as it subdues you taste chocolate, oak, rasins, vanilla, figs. and caramel. The mouthfeel in this one is excellent with a nice soft warming sensation that melds with all of the flavors. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, yum! Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 23, 2008 Let me first say that at first I really wanted to not like this beer. Something about this whole frequent special releases thing kind of rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
A- I have to say this looks just about perfect. Very dark brown, almost black with a creamy, tan head that leaves quite a bit of lacing as it falls.
S- Smell is very enticing, sweet, brown sugar, spices, almost detect a sour note towards the end, slight coffee, a bit of bourbon.
T- Taste is much different than I was suspecting from the smell. Tastes creamy, mixed spices in the middle, sweet cream, a slight bit of bourbon. Can detect the alcohol warming but it blends in so superbly. The sweetness wears on you after a while. Definitely a sipper.
M- A bit thinner than I would have guessed, very crisp with a lot of carbonation. Refreshing, I’m a little tired of beers that are way too thick, this is excellent.
D- I really really wanted to not like this beer. I tried to find as much wrong with it as I could but I just couldn’t. Not a huge fan of the brewery, didn’t buy into the hype and I loved it. Try to get a bottle now why there is still some in circulation, you won’t regret it.
