I was keeping this one for a special occasion but since I heard few people saying there might be infection issues with this offering, I decided not to wait long to open it. Well! I can say there is a lot of stuff in this small bottle but certainly no infection. Pours dark mahogany color with a big tan head. Carbonation is too high for this kind of beer but if you wait a little it is getting way better. The aroma is awesome! strong malt, caramel, bourbon and vanilla. Same strong taste profile with a great balance between sweeteness, alcool and bitterness! This is spot on to what I think a barley wine should be! John, I can’t thank you enough for this treat!

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Jan 1, 2010 2008 Bottle from theisti shared with my b-i-l and nephew. Pours murky brown, some floaties, no head whatsoever. Nose is bourbon and a little toasty caramel, raisins and dates. Flavor is the nose - first the bourbon, then some more pronounced sweetness of raisins and brown sugar. Alcohol heat finishes. Mouthfeel/Palate - as noted many hundreds of times, it was utterly flat. IME - the flavors weren’t enough to overcome this - it was hard to drink for me, and the flatness accentuated the alcohol and slight astringency. There was enough good stuff going on to save it from the drain, but not a good effort from LA. kyzr (1132), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Tastes of vanilla, wood, bourbon, dried fruit, the finish has a bit of toast on it. Super smooth texture and the alcohol will sneak up on you. blutt59 (2184), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Bought a 375 mL bottle of 2009 vintage at Lost abbey brewery. Even at the brewery they charge $15 for a 12 oz bottle, but its well worth it because this might be the most delicious beverage ever. is it really a beer?... no carbonation at all and i can’t even taste the alcohol. its certainly not a barley wine... way too dark and flat. i agree more with beeradvocate who calls this a strong ale. it tastes like fruit and chocolate and everything about is wonderful. its really the perfect dessert... especially with some vanilla ice cream. mmmmmmm an angels share float! Aroma strong of bourbon, bitter, malty. Tastes of vanilla, bourbon, fruity, slight toasty, a bit thin on the tongue. Intensely dry mouth feel. mattmc1973 (313), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 25, 2009 375ml bottle poured into a snifter. Color is deep brown with small tan creamy head that leaves nice lacing and sticks around for a while. Aroma is mainly of bourbon and oak, with heavy sweet dark bread, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, and vanilla. Flavor is heavily sweet, with a somewhat dry, long acidic finish. Mouthfeel is full and creamy, with very fizzy carbonation and an alcohol burn at the end. Quite a rich and delicious treat!
