Pours a dark ruby brown with a one to two finger head. More carbonated than the Angel’s Share. The aroma shows more oak than Angels Share, sweet, very oaky, nice vanilla, light alcohol, very light bourbon undertones. The flavor was sweet, oaky, vanilla, oak tannins, as Sam said "the base beer seems hidden". The oak is very nice but it seems to detract from the foundation more than Angels Share. Still great though. kappldav123 (1884), Markkleeberg, Germany
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 14, 2009 The bottle looks really, really good. The beer in the glass is deep black, not very zippy, creamy head. Starts strong-malty, quite alcoholic, very complex with notes of chocolate and liquorice. Finish prickly-scratchy, still well balanced. Warming aftertaste. A great beer! Thanks to hapjydeuce for that bottle! stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of oak, bourbon, caramel, molasses, and vanilla absolutely perfect. The flavor is sweet, molasses, caramel, chocolate vanilla, bourbon, oak all perfectly blended. excellent body, alcohol is hidden quite well. Excellent brew. | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 7, 2007 Updated: Apr 28, 2009On cask at the brewery. Aroma perks forth with suave, sleek grandeur enticing in so many fruits, rich nuttiness and bold gout-inducing richness. Sprightly. Out of the hand engine, the beer comes as a ruddy hued mahogany, clouded with a fine, silky smooth cream head in tobacco tinted cloud. Flavor is redolent with extravagent creamed malts, mature sugar density and a whole pantheon of nuts, fruits, chocolate, nips of tobacco and fragrant plums. Texture completely sublime, the cask presentation hightening the sickening drinkability of a beer so hefty. The bourbon smoothes corners, draws deep breaths of moist woodiness and clean nut-dry parching quality. More rounded and deep than the Brandy-barrel version and it shows. I really didn’t think this beer could get any better. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Courtesy of Dunk. Thanks a bunch! Pours a murky brown color, with a small light brown head. Light bubbles hug the edge of the glass. Smells of sweet bourbon notes, loads of caramel malt, with traces of dark fruits, but they are seemingly almost drowned out by the majestic bourbon. The flavor is a wonderfully blended combination of that ever present bourbon, rich syrupy malts, caramel candy, and a biting alcohol presence that seemed appropriate for this beer. Some vanilla and toffee notes along with a fluter of oak and light cream. Great balance for this style of beer. i came away more impressed with this beer than its brandy barrel aged brother. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Brown color with a full head. Hard to get much out of the nose at all. Velvety mouth feel with a smooth texture. Not very complex overall, with out nuance or depth. It does have a nice hint of dried chocolate on the finish, but other than that, there isn’t a lot of describable character. Good, solid ale. I have found these new versions of angels share beers to be just ok, both the latest batches are not as good as the original batch at GABF 2006. Thanks to Jake. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Bottle gushed all over my lap. Deep mahogany in color with a tan, foamy head. Stringy lacing. Lots of vanilla and alcohol, mostly bourbon. Toffee or caramel come out in the malts. Bitter and a bit acrid from the alcohol. There is a big note of brown sugar that comes out in the flavor. Raisins mix in with the vanilla. Creamy, and full bodied with a finish that is just as complex as the rest of the beer. Delicious. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 10, 2008 Updated: Apr 12, 2008Huge pop! out of the bottle. Frothy head intially, really well sustained. Very dark, more than I thought it would be. Body is lively yet quite substantial; very few beers pull this off to this extent (HotD Adam is one). Alcohol is a good bit hot. Intense dark plummy, raisiny fruit, bourbon is around but not too heavy (veers close though) -- intense sugary cake flavors, vanilla is gigantic. This beer is a diabetic’s nightmare.
