Dark brown in colour with strong and fizzy carbonation. Huge licorice, asphalt, booze, and dark fruits on the nose. Complex flavors of cookie dough, caramel, mellow stewed fruit, whiskey, and a hint of earthy hops. Very heavy mouthfeel inspite of all of the carbonation. A "sippin’ beer" if there ever was one. This was one I was definitely looking forward to and made me really want to try the Brandy barrel version, as I would expect it to be light years ahead of this one. Has a nice, big body. Nose is lots of Vanilla and more distinctly bourbon than most bourbon barrel beers. More akin to an Old Ale at this stage with a robust, deep brown body and loads of caramel malts. Very big, lots of alcohol, though clean tasting. Caramel and just enough bitterness to keep it from cloying. Damn, really want to try the Bourbon one now... | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Mar 15, 2008 Got a pint today at the release and also popped a bottle when I got home. Drink it at room temp! Pours very dark chocolatey brown, virtually black. Somewhat fizzy, light brown head, with decent retention, some lace. Smells of vanilla mostly with some bourbon and then oak notes in the background. When I first tasted the beer it was slightly chilled and the flavors were masked by the kind of bitter bourbon and alcohol flavors. As the brew warmed though, the vanilla and oak flavors really came forward to blend nicely with the bourbon. Very well balanced by the end of the glass. I would like to say it’s full bodied, but its not. Medium body, a little overcarbonated, in my opinion. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Pours out a deep brown color with a large head. Aroma was sweet with notes of malt, choco, and best of all, BOURBON! Flavor is sweet, but dominated by the bourbon. This was another great beer by these guys. BOLTZ7555 (1098), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser tasting. Bottle courtesy of Sparky27 & Bockyhorsey. Let me start off by saying all three of you are gentlemen and scholars!!! This was the BIG WINNER of the night. It began with a pop and a thick caramel head slowly climbing out of the top of the bottle. Incredible rusty brew with yeasty bits floating throughout the glass. Oak, molasses, vanilla, and toffee all playfully fighting for attention. Flavor is extremely complex with various dark fruits, chocolate, and mild bourbon. Unlike other barrel-aged beers, this one isn’t overpowered by the whisky, but instead, accentuates the brews other qualities. Delicious, refined, and exceptional. pineypower (1096), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA

O well still have notes from Dmac’s. Thanks to jimmack for bringing this one. Pours out very dark brown with a small slightly off white head. Aroma is of bourbon, oak and some nice dark fruits. Taste is very complex with some nice earthy oak, vanilla and bourbon present throughout slight malty sweetness lingering but never overpowering, slight alcoholic burn on the finish.
