Sampled at the Hellbilly’s Hellraiser Phoenix tasting (4/13/08). Bottles courtesy of me and Bockyhorsey. Pours a deep caramel color with minimal beige head and spotty lacing. Nose is yeast, caramel, brown sugar and a oaky bourbon background. Palate is caramelized brown sugar, vanilla, some dark fruits and bourbon, though just enough – not overpowering in the slightest. Deserves the hype – just an awesome brew. Wish the bottles were bigger… ;-)

Dark brown, almost black pour with small head that dissipates rapidly. Moderate legs. Aroma is loaded with maple, bourbon, vanilla, and raisin malt. Some boozynes evident, complimented nicely by some port-like vinous notes. Bourbon impartment is very evident. Caramel is powerful as it warms. Flavor is alcohol up front with extreme amounts of caramel, dark fruit, toffee, caramelized brown sugar and some milk chocolate. Palate is heavy and syrup like, finishing with a warming, welcomed alcoholic burn. Leaves a sticky, smacking finish. Extremely well balanced and quaffable, mellow and nearly perfect. This is the best of the style I’ve sampled so far.

Bottle 08. Deep brown/black. Smells bourbony, sweet malt, dark fruits. Tastes of fig, oak, vanilla and heavy bourbon. Very warming full body. I could drink this forever.

Bottle sampled at Lost Abbey for RBSG 08. Poured into a wine glass. Deep brown color with lots of cocoa foam and visible sediment. Aromas of bourbon and chewy sweet malts. Flavor is maple syrup/brown sugar with the obvious rich bourbon note. Alcohol is extremely well-hidden. Sticky mouthfeel makes the finish very long. Drinkability is ridiculous for 12.5%.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy brown (worse than normal...really looked like crap) with a one finger beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and toasted malt. Flavor of molasses, chocolate and bourbon. Medium/full body with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

Great thanks to Jwale73 for sharing is absurdly great beer! Pours black with a minimal head. Nose is absurd, maybe the best I’ve ever O smelled it for about 10 minutes. Vanilla, caramel, toffee, oak, bourbon, and dark fruits. Taste is excellent as well, incredibly rich and complex, with maple, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, and raisins dancing in a thick, rich goodness. Finish has some alcohol, but nicley balanced by a little sweet and a little bitter. Just a wonderful beer.

Pours dark brown with a decent sized head, particularly for a barleywine. Aroma is phenomenal; bourbon, vanilla, maple, caramel, vinous qualities, dark fruit, and malt. Flavor is also excellent; soft and mellow, but immensely flavorful- caramelized sugars, molasses, chocolate, and beautiful alcohol burn. Epic barleywine with a palate that combines alcohol with ridiculous smoothness. Awesome.
