On tap at Bistro’s 2nd BA Festival. Even though this was listed as 2007, it was clearly the 2006 version. I had about 4 samples that were 3-4 ounces a piece. Somewhat fruity, light bourbon aromas are present to start. Unfortunately, there is a definite ethanol presence in the nose. A bit of vinousness is present, too. Moderately hazy ruddy amber body with an oily, light tan/orange head. Fair lacing. Attractive stuff. Starts a bit sweet before some bourbon flavors make a presence. Becomes vinous, roasty, malty, caramelly in the middle. Finishes with a lightly bitter hoppiness. Smooth, velvety, warming, extremely drinkable. Great stuff.

Bottle gushed all over my lap. Deep mahogany in color with a tan, foamy head. Stringy lacing. Lots of vanilla and alcohol, mostly bourbon. Toffee or caramel come out in the malts. Bitter and a bit acrid from the alcohol. There is a big note of brown sugar that comes out in the flavor. Raisins mix in with the vanilla. Creamy, and full bodied with a finish that is just as complex as the rest of the beer. Delicious.

Rating #996. Pours dark brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, wood, vanilla, and dark fruit. Flavor is bourbon, dark fruit, malt, vanilla, wood, and caramel. Fantastic!!

Courtesy of Immy at the 6th Richmond Gathering. Deep brown, nice head. Bready with some raisins in the aroma. A touch of vanilla as well. Flavor matches, but I am not adequately expressing the depth and richness of these flavors. Some slight bourbon notes on the finish perhaps, but this is a beer where the barrels simply accentuate as opposed to dominate. Excellent stuff.

An explosive opening burst out the heavenly aroma. Lots of caramel and dark fruit with underpinnings of bourbon. The beer is a very dark and slightly murky mahogany colour with a thick fizzy brown head. Vanilla, caramel, bourbon, and alcohol are prominent in the flavour. There is a bit of oak and yeasty flavour n there as well. One of the more drinkable big barley wines out there though I think it’ll improve a bit with age.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruity, toasted malt, alcohol and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

(2006 batch on tap @ the bistro)brown body with a huge brown head.small bourbon notes along with some citrus hops,cotton candy,and brown sugar.very well balanced and no alcohol is detected.(2008 bottle from the sinners release)uber-dark brown.in fact,you cant see through the beer even when its held up to light.nice big light brown head that leaves some lacing on the glass.the aroma is simply awesome.bourbon,vanilla,oak,cotton candy ,pine hops,and bubble gum.the thing that i like best about the aroma is nothing is overpowering.the flavor is pretty much the same.again,everything is very well balanced.i think the 2008 has more flavor,although its a tad bit overcarbonated.

After the cork exploded into the air and shocked all in the room, the beer poured a deep black with a cherry oak nose. Flavor is oaked cherry wood with chocolate smears. Full mouthfeel. Dang good.
