Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel's Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

750Bottle. Huge beer. Had it right after I had 120min IPA and it had a much stronger flavor and aroma. Very heavy, dark and sweet. I enjoyed it thoroughly, although it was a bit much for my drinking companions. Super glad I able to get my hands on some, thanks Ben.

750ml bottle 2007 vintage. Rating # 1,000!! Pours a hazed burnt orange amber with zero head. Tons and TONS of sweet caramel and toasted malt on the nose. Flavor was of candied fruits (figs), oak and vanilla. Finish was sweet and smooth with some alcohol. I purchased a 750ml @ Hamilton’s tavern in South Park San Diego. It was nearing the end of the night and the bartender yelled "last call!" as bartenders do. 5 minutes later, with 1/2 of the bottle still full, he grabbed my beloved bottle of Angels Share and dumped it into a bucket and said "time to leave". Needless to say I almost went to jail that night. I’ll get another bottle re rate in the privacy of my own home.....what a DICK!

Bottle. Poured a dark brown/orange/red with a thin tan head. Aroma of oak and malt. Flavor was very malty with oak, caramel and vanilla. A slight alcohol warmth at the end. Body was slightly weak for a beer rated this high I think, but an all around good brew.

Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand tasting. Alround rating: Huge malt character, caramalt, sweet with peppery hoppy alcohol, still manages to hold itself together and not become too alcoholic. Perhaps a bit too big and bold and sweet for me though.

2006 edition: Eclipsed garnet. Thin light-beige head slowly diminishes into a jagged-edged collar. Fabulously aromatic notes of fresh-cut wood (sawdust, clay), blackcurrants, candied plums, meaty molasses, vanilla, nougat, and old leather entice the senses. Soft pricks of carbonation. Viscous barrel extractives evoke thoughts of blackstrap molasses and liquefied raisins as they lap the palate. Clean but pervasive alcohol disperses some of the tackiness from the tongue while the relaxed tannins lend balance by simultaneously stinging the palate gently. Exquisitely balanced despite the overall intensity of each component. Seamless interplay between the bright fruity esters and dense concentration of brandy. Takes on a tolerable blackstrap molasses, leather, and lightly medicinal astringency toward the center. Very tacky and sugary, though never remotely cloying or nauseating in its unbridled richness. Gorgeously textured, core-bolstering malts gradually intensify to reveal deeply rooted vanilla-cake accents which harmonize with the understated, yet vibrant, vanillin oakiness. Although a hint of cardboard exudes, it is surprisingly minimal, and the faint remnants of oxidation are mostly absorbed by the dizzyingly complex and sophisticated medley of malt, esters, and sappy brandy. Absolutely supple beyond compare. Tongue-coating and tooth-clinging on up to finish which features a sweet and salty fusion of tannins and red licorice coupled with undercurrents of leather and coffee. Didnt expect to be all that fond of this, but theyve clearly outdone themselves here. Beers of this nature are rarely so refined.
