| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 30, 2008 Bottle. Hazy golden pour with small white head. Sweet bready and yeasty nose with a relatively subtle mix of spices. Notes of curacao, orange, coriander, clove, banana and bubble gum but nothing dominating. Pleasant crisp finish but an overly dry mouthfeel that somehow takes away from its refreshing taste. BBB63 (4274), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 30, 2008 Corked bottle from Jon and served in my Hoegaarden tumbler: Hazy golden hue (actually darker than most witbier) with a small but lasting frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of sweet honey bread, some coriander, more banana and bubblegum than the traditional orange zesty fruity vapours (this is NOT a good thing IMO) and hint of musty spend grains. The taste is a mild presence of acidic fruit (a very mild note of grapefruit) and an overall flabby honey and bread yeast mix overtone. Some notes of spice all over the place. The mouth feel is chalky and displays soft carbonation except for a tingle around the outside of the tongue, the finish feels like I have been eating on a sheet of plastic. Overall I would say there are much more refreshing witbiers available to the masses of beergeekdom. This brew lacks that enjoyment factor associated with the genre. Hardly bad and I have no doubt some people dig this, but I will reach for the classic before this. Steib (581), Queen Creek, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Nice banana yeasty hop aroma.. Good wheat and hop notes in the flavor. Didnt detect the grapefruit ’’zest’’ as described. Soft and a little tangy on the palate. This might age well for a wit but i’ve had better wits. Ibrew2or3 (2843), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Pours nearly clear gold with white head. The aroma has a nice load of wheat and milder notes of yeasty spice and even milder esters and banana. Yum smelling. The taste is smooth but doesn’t get all the way to being crisp – refreshing. Starts with big wheat and a mild level of acidic tartness. It moves along to midway and the finish getting even smoother and more blended. Nice stuff. Seems to have the smoothness of age without the aid of aging. 0110x011 (20), Dana Point, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Pours a pale straw into a Lost Abbey long-stemmed tulip. Frothy one finger head dissipates into a thin collar. Very little lacing. Banana and spice on the nose. The honey is in there, and it makes a nice addition to the profile. Flavor is quite fruity, with some yeasty spice to balance things out, and the honey making itself known again. Light bodied and crisp.
Probably Lost Abbey’s most drinkable brew, I could sip on this stuff all night. Seek it out if you’re a fan of witbiers. pantanap (1375), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2008 750ml bottle given to me as an extra by hophead22 i believe. thanks!... pours a hazy golden yellow brown with a moderate level of white head... aroma of wheat and citrus component with some honey like sweetness to it. not too much detection of any grapefruit, specifically... flavors where wheatlike with a semi-dry and watery finish. citrus notes again but the grapefruit isn’t too discernable. refreshing and drinkable but that’s about it. mjg74 (2001), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Bottle from South Bay. Bright golden color upon pouring. Aroma is strong on yeast. Somewhat sweet as well. Dry and yeasty up front. Light grainy flavor with a hint of hops and spices. Not alot going on, but I do like this sort of yeasty flavor.
