nwiseman (8), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA does not count Nov 17, 2009 From bottle. Aroma is rich and earthy. Appearance is deep brown with a thin tan head. Taste is woody, coffee is apparent but not overpowering. Smooth but not lingering. Overall, a very decent stout. shawnm213 (906), South Bend, Indiana, USA Nov 15, 2009 pours a dark brown with a small tan head. notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts. Not terribly complex, but tasty and distinct flavors. great beer. neepsntatties (320), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 11, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Colour... very dark brown with a thick dark head. Nose... what the...?!! Smells like stomach acid! Did I get a bad bottle?! Hope it tastes better than it smells! Palate... frothy, rather thin body, light coffee, roasty, some dark chocolate, slightly bitter. Thank God it tasted better then it smelled, though not as zippidy-do-dah as I heard! JoeMcPhee (4988), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Nov 10, 2009 Deep brown-black pour. Thick sticky head. Really nice looking beer. Dry cocoaish nose initially with lots of bitter chocolate and some roasted barley through the middle of the palate. Malty complexity that is quite pleasant. Nice balance of chocolatey sweetness and a bit of earthy bitterness. A nice simple stout, but it works. coldmeat23 (185), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 10, 2009 Appears to be solid black, but light shining through reveals it to be a very dark ruby color. Totally tiny head, almost non-existant, which fades to nothing, quickly.
Smells of malts and sweetbreads. Slight fruitiness.
Tastes of ’medium-level’ malt content. It’s there, just not really big and bold. A nice ’safe’ amount, it seems. Burning coffee mixed with burnt chocolate.
Nice in the mouth, though a bit on the watery side, for a stout.
Very easy to drink, but I’d like to drink something that pleases me more. (But, thats’s just me.)
