Has lots of licorice and roasted malt flavor, finishes with moderate hops. the sweetness is perfect, any more would be too much, any less would take away the yummy factor. gotta give props for it being reasonably priced here in CA still. this one’s a no brainer.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 31, 2007 nearly opaque mostly black pour with a cocoa colored head that fades to a ring. aromas of cream, chocolate, ashy roasted malts and a bit of coffee. the flavor has a lot going on. it’s surprisingly complex and smooth. notes of wood, chocolate, earth, dark dried fruit and a lingering aftertaste of coffee. it finishes lightly sour/dry/ashy/bitter (take your pick) and thankfully, isn’t too sweet. medium bodied and on the high side for carbonation.
