Commercial Description:
Not for the faint hearted! Our stout rewards the palate with robust flavor of roasted malts (malts are roasted like coffee beans) and heavy hops. A creamy smooth surprise.

Pours old engine oil black with a tan head that disappears quickly. Weak aroma, but coffee, chocolate, malts... Taste is powerful-malts, hops, coffee on the back end. Very nice beer.

12 oz. bottle. Aims for, and mostly hits, the Guinness version of a stout. Dark reddish-brown pour becomes black in the glass, with slightly frothy brown foam. Smell shows a trace of sourness. Taste brings out well roasted malts, which have a little bitterness. Dry and again a little sour, like perhaps a trace of cherry. Noticably more hoppy than yer basic stout, though. Finishes slightly smoky, almost like chipotle peppers.

Really roasty & a little bitter. Plenty good but nothing great. Not much that distinguishes itself from other stouts as far as I can tell. 98 seems high but I got another bottle so I’ll get another chance to check.

12oz....The most over-rated stout I’ve tried...too watery and light for my taste...

10/2/07 bottle. Beautiful ink blot black with average head and a fair amount of lacing. Bitter chocolate, coffee-expresso aroma. Nice roasted sweet malt taste. Very smooth and easy to drink. A little less creamy and heavy than I wanted, but still a wonderful brew regardless. Again, another home run for Lost Coast!

Dark brown, near black, with a brown firm cap. Very rich roast aroma, chocolate, espresso, ash. Same on the palate, leathery. Oily body, rich creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. After being supremely disappointed with this brewer’s raspberry brown ale, I was blown away by this! Fantastic!

Damn good. Good deep earthy roasted characteristics that I really enjoyed. The hops comes through late and it is a good addition to a good beer. Would definately drink it again.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. Deep black colour with a medium tan head that reduces to a film. Aroma was milk chocolate. Flavour was outstanding with hints of more chocolate and roasted coffee.
