blackmurder (164), sadf, Hawaii, USA Jul 18, 2006 My favorite stout of all time. A reliable beer that never disappoints. Pours dark black with a thin head that is typical of a stout. Robust aroma of coffee, vanilla, toffee, and roasted malts. The taste is what does it for me though. It is just so smooth and almost sweet with a complex flavor for an oatmeal stout. Brown sugar, vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. A great stout and my all time most purchased beer.
EHopper (100), Minnesota, USA Aug 12, 2008 Good aroma of dark fruit and coffee. Flavor adds sweet orange chocolate malt to the mix, with a surprising citrus brightness, finishing with a healthy bitterness with lingering coffee. I never heard of this beer before today, but will look for it in the future. NoiZe (875), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 12, 2008 Tasted @ the Loast Coast Brewery in Eureka.
Black colored brew. Nice roasted malty aroma. Fine roasted malty flavor, some coffee and chocolate. Nice sweet stout. MiP (4927), Flensburg, Germany Aug 12, 2008 Bottle. Creamy roasted aroma. Almost black colour. Very small brown head. The flavour is roasted with some barley bitterness, some cream, a little dust. Enough sweetness to prevent it from being too dry. Good coffee aftertaste. Bockyhorsey (1951), Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 11, 2008 12oz bottle. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Black body with head that settled on top of beer like a bacteria experiment. Good roasted stout flavor but the sweetness present overshadows the roasty flavor.
Alright but little too sweet for me. yesyouam (345), Fairport, New York, USA Aug 5, 2008 8 Ball Stout is black with an orange hue. It has a fleeting light orange head that quickly fades to a small, bubbly ring. Dark, roasty malt dominates the aroma: coffee and chocolate and smoke. It has a smooth, medium-full body with a dry finish. It has a very well balanced flavor. The bitterness seems to come as much from the malt as it does the hops. There are notes of dark roast coffee, baking chocolate and maybe a hint of rye bread. It is resiny and oaken, with a touch of sweetness and medicine. A damn fine stout!
