Commercial Description:
A full-flavored amber ale made with roasted caramel malt. Richly colored and medium-bodied, Alleycat is an assertive blend of malts with a sprightly cascade of hops.

On tap. Amber in color. Slightly hoppy aroma but mostly nondescript. Good but not great flavor. Tastes of hops with some citrus and malts. This is the kind of beer that you’re happy for when you discover it in the fridge at a party. It’s not necessarily a beer I would buy regularly since there are better beers out there for basically the same price.

Orange amber with yellow accents, slightly opaque. White head, slightly lingering. Aroma is a dextrin-like sweetness combined with hoppy citrus notes. Medium body with a nice malty sweetness. Hop flavor dominates the finish with a pleasing ESB crispness. Very well balanced, with a bold character unmarred by the heavyness or syrupy aspect that can be a problem with American Amber trying to make such a statement on the palate as this beer.

Bottle. Amber color, medium whitish head, nice lacing on my glass. Aroma is mildly hoppy, some malt and caramel in there too, fairly weak. Flavor has a sturdy malt profile, some caramel, and a touch of hops in the finish. Smooth, a little light on the body, good level of carbonation. Another respectable brew from Lost Coast.

Clear amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel and biscuits. Flavor has notes of caramel and pale malts, some grapefruit and toffee. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Mild hoppage. Medium-thin body with subtle carbonation. Decent head retention. Drinkable but boring.

Interesting, I will try again. Poured cloudy amber with a small head. Flavor is somewhat hoppy. Aroma (based on my wife’s observation) is reminisant of cured tobacco. I like it because it seems to be complex on initial tasting. Worth a try.

I’m not a big amber drinker anyway, but this didn’t impress me nearly as much as other Lost Coast beers have. Their Indica is really solid, but this was just a pretty standard amber. Malty, sweet, and uneventful.

Pours bright and clear amber-copper color with a nice foamy off white head that leaves some lace in the glass, malty caramel aroma, sweet malty nutty flavors, medium bodied with a soft and creamy mouthfeel. It does finish with a nice and clean dryness, a very tasty amber ale.
