Muddy orange color, not much head. Apple/pineapple/toffee aroma. Big malt flavour with a sharp, edgy, hoppy, bitter finish.

Scorching caramel malt and blistering peach syrup…Grinning plump grapes and screeching hop flowers…Rough but flavorful example...

December 2001, at the brewery. THIS IS THEIR FIRST BARLEYWINE? And they won a gold at the GABF? This is a wonderful brew, dark cherry in color, wonderfully smooth with and almost perfect malt/hop blend. You can almost chew this wonderful beer. I hope they keep it all year long.

Barley Wine Fest: Toronado. Deep amber, cloudy and dim colr. totally headless. A bit doughy in the nose, some salt, thick, worty, softened hop finish. Tasted a less yeasty sample that was better. July 2001, tap, Eureka, CA. Malty aroma on alcohol vapors, fairly still, multidimensional malt, sweet and hoppy and with appreciable punch! Very nice.

A justifiable gold medal-winner. Classic barleywine profile: succulent, extravagant malt, complex, dense fruit flavors, and powerful, though masked, bitterness. Suberb!!
