puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Oct 22, 2009 Bottle: Pours an auburn brown with a dense tan film for head. Earthy malts and dark nuts in the nose, along with a cocoa hint. Frothy carbonation. Nice, soft crystal malt flavor. Light notes of toasted cocoa and a late nutty roast character, and the slightest touch of smokiness in the finish. A solid Brown Ale hopheaven (83), Eureka, California, USA Oct 21, 2009 Orange-citrus and piney hops up front in the nose but lightly roasted malts do come through with a caramel and mild chocolate character. Is sorrel or chestnut in color, very appropriate for a "nut brown ale". Sweet and nutty with hints of burnt caramel and a chocolate finish. There is the faintest note of acridity lended by roasted barley. Oranges come through pleasantly in the flavor as well. Bitterness is spot on. A solid beer that could be a tad dryer. travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 8, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Brown in color with a decent tan colored head. The smell is malts, nuts, sweet, and some roast. The taste is dry, malts, roasty, and toast. Delirium (495), Santa Cruz, California, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottle. Very dark brown in color, thick creamy head. Lovely roasted aroma, chocolate, nuts, caramel, malts. Nicely balanced flavors, sweet malts and bitter chocolate, along with hoppy undertones that provide good balance. Very drinkable, very tasty. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Sep 24, 2009 Lost Coast Downtown Brown is a dark brown ale that has a shade of dim garnet. It’s crystal clear with a dense, creamy, light coffee colored head. It has excellent retention and leaves thick sheets of lacing on the glass. It has a toasty, nutty aroma with notes of roasted dark chocolate, walnut bread and a fruity grassiness. It’s medium bodied, soft and smooth with a slightly gritty finish. It’s fruity and roasty tasting. It’s chocolaty but only a hint sweet. It has nice balance and it’s a bit warming. It’s a well executed brown ale. Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Sep 22, 2009 Drank it with rcasta and ghawener. The best brown ale I´ve tasted so far. Slight hoppiness, nice, well rounded. Light bodied but full flavored.
