I am admittedly biased against brown ales, they are always weak I feel and this beer was no exception. Some toffee tastes, a nice medium body, but nothing really else. Some light nut flavors, but otherwise a bit bland. danielcurtis81 (905), San Diego, California, USA

Good malts and nut flavors. Medium bodied, and refreshing. A really drinkable brown ale. jhumphries69 (729), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 13, 2008 Draft at Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, CA. Pours deep, clear red/brown with thin-bubbled, light tan head. The aroma is nutty with bread and toast (victory malt). Flavor is grainy, maltsweet, somewhat nutty, chocolatey, toasty, and bready. Mid-palate is unexpectedly ester-fruity with soft balancing bitterness. The finish is sweet and grainy. The mouthfeel is medium in body with soft, slippery suds. Overall, decent-but-far-from-great brown ale. Sparky27 (1596), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear maroon with a half finger beige head that faded quickly into a soapy layer that resulted in spotty lacing. Nose is malt, roasted nuts and light coffee. Taste is similar to the aroma with an added mild citrus hops coming through in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Decent brown ale. Pawola22 (754), Kansas City, Missouri, USA

Pours a deep, dark brown with no real head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is simple, but a little different than most browns. Nutty, roasty, almost porterlike at times. Kind of weird how the description says "without the heavy taste of porter..." Sweet malts with a toffee background. Not a bad aroma at all. Medium bodied and watery. Not a lot going on with the flavor and pretty unbalanced. Sweet and nutty with a hint of roasty smokiness and finishes slightly bitter. Overall, pretty boring except for the porterlike smell. I guess their description was right in part that it sure doesn’t taste like a porter. Watery and bland. Brewbie (224), New York, USA

Aroma is malty a bit phenolic Basic dry malty flavor rather bland. Medium bottied and a little fizzy in the mouth. BeerFanDan17 (621), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2008 A very tasty brown ale. Nice balance of malt and hops--more on the sweet side, but not overpowering malty. Nice roasted hints on the palate of choholate and toffee. Sampled both on draft at Bar Louie in Tampa and like it so much picked up a sixer at ABC liquor on the way home.
