Lightly flavored and a bit thin. A little charcoal bitterness and some sweet malt. Nothing special. DuffMan (2766), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 15, 2008 Dark chestnut brown, clear, light brown head with brief retention. Chocolatey with a subtle berry fruit note a nd a stemmy mild hop finish. Loved it! Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Pours deep amber-ish brown with thin tan head. The aroma is light with some stale malts and roasty malts. The taste is roasty – toasty and malty with a thin layer of malt astringency. I also get toffee and mild molasses. A roasty toastiness really lingers into the finish and beyond. There is a faint stale graininess that rides well below the other flavors. Oakes (8101), gone rambling, Cambodia
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Bottle, Brewery Creek Dark brown colour is nice, but it’s flat-looking, with no head. Nutty aroma with some chocolate malts. Moderate body, some nutty, slightly earthy character. Perhaps a shade of tartness. Low hopping. Sweetish finish, again leaning towards nutty with chocolate accents. I’d call it a middlin’ brown. Strykzone (1483), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Dark brown body with red highlights and a thin short lasting tan head. Nice oily sticky lacing. Aroma is deliciously sweet caramel, toffee, and dark fruit. Flavor is more molasses and nut than the aroma would indicate. Just a hint of zing from hops. Feel is moderate at best. This is an enjoyable beer and one that should have very wide appeal. It makes one wonder why so many pale lagers are so popular when beers like this are available. can8ianben (904), Pasadena, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Love the funky label on the bottle. A very smooth, sweet, caramelly brown ale. Syrupy, easy drinking, a better version of Newcastle. Very smooth, not very detectable hops, make sure it warms a little, when it’s icy its just not right. BeMerry (37), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Aroma of molasses. Pours dark brown, almost opaque with two-finger, large-bubbled, light brown head. Just the right intensity of brown sugary sweetness lasts and lasts. Nice tingle, pleasing fullness in mouth. A beer to sip, savor and have another. gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2008 I may be biased because I like dark beers best. This one has a nice clean finish but the overall flavor is not as robust as I look for. Probably one of the better brown ales I’ve had lately but I tend to go for a stout or porter for more sweetness and bouquet.
