A lot of light toasty malts and a light hop suggestion on the nose. Taste is mildly sweet with caramel and a light nuttiness. A light hoppy finish. A decent brown with no real big flaws. Very drinkable. radagast83 (1302), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

I was not disappointed. This was a very solid brown ale. Nutty malts, roasted malts, creamy. timfoolery (484), California, USA

Downtown Brown has the microbrewed taste that is lacking in mass-produced browns, such as Newcastle. Excellent in a wide array of categories, this brown ale is smooth and malty with rich nutty taste. An excellent, excellent brew. DrnkMcDermott (1851), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2007 12 oz. screw-top bottle. I pop the cap and get a whiff of a nice, big malty nut brown ale. Pours a seriously deep brown color, close to a porter, under a brown eggshell, foamy head. Solid nutty malt taste, slightly roasty with a note of light coffee and dark toffee creams. A good supporting backup by the hops: just enough to keep the beer from being sweet. If this came a nitro pull instead of the standard bottle carbonation, it’s be a great session beer. dalepryor (172), Paducah, Kentucky, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Nov 15, 2007 This one is one of a kind I believe. Aroma of peanuts and tea, pours a dark brown. Tastes of Malts, nuts and unsweet tea oddly enough. It’s not very complex but it’s not uninteresting. Try this beer and it will be well worth it. beisen (90), California, USA

Dark opaque brown colour, small head that quickly settles into a ring from nice carbonation. Aroma is milk chocolate and flavour is roasted malt with balanced hoppiness. exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA
