ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 22, 2007 Special draught at Mellow Mushroom, Brandon, FL. Watermelon aroma with some cardboard notes. Murky brownish amber. Steady carbonation. Small tan head. Some lace and good color. This tastes nothing like a Dunkelweizen. No wheat flavor. Lagerish. Smooth pale lager. Very average. matta (1137), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 17, 2007 Updated: Apr 20, 2007Rating #1045
Draft @ Mellow Brandon
Hazy brown body, white cap of head. Kind of astringent flavor… odd mix of green citrus oils, green banana, and cardboard. The palate was buttery and finished with hints of caramel, toasted bread, and a mouthful of pennies. I was very under-whelmed by this effort from a brewery that usually does some fine work.
Not a dunkel weizen in most any sense… hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Apr 12, 2007 Draft... Cloudy amber ale with a small, creamy, white head. Incredible retention. Not a whole lot going on in the aroma or the flavor. Well-balanced... malty sweet, but adequately hopped for balance. Full-bodied and fizzy with a short, crisp, clean finish. A very decent beer... just a bit boring. I’ll go with mgumby10 on this one... way more dunkel than weizen. Where are those fruity esters and spicy (clove) phenols? mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Mar 22, 2007 On draft at redlight. Pours a dark copper wit ha light off white head. Smell is pretty mellow, light maltiness and some grape citrus in there. taste is pretty mellow as well. Some cinnamon, wheat, and sweet malts. Tastes more dunkel than it does weizen. Some wheat characterisitics though. Some dark fruit is present in the aftertaste and the finish is relatively smooth. Decent. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2007 on draft @ redlight redlight. Caramel and fruit on the nose, more berries than say citrus or banana’s that i would imagine. Pours caramel brown. Quite crisp, not what i was expecting, some roasted flavors coming through strongly in the begining, and a big hop presence, malty finish. i don’t pick up much wheat. It reminds more of a dunkel lager honetly. Its not bad as a beer, not great if i was judging it by the name.
