Commercial Description:
An American version of the Belgian style. This unfiltered beer has a striking translucent, golden color with white clouds. Seemingly a contradiction in terms, it has a full body mouth-feel but is surprisingly light to drink. Topped with a hint of citrus, provided by Coriander and a secret blend of Humbolt herbs, this beer is slightly sweet and a delight to drink in any season.

Bottle... Poured clear yellow with a white head. Aroma of dank citrus fruit and spices. Tasted more lagerish/golden ale than a Wit, they must have forgotten what style they were brewing. Spices and citrus-like hops with other flavors of yeast, malt and maybe coriander. This style is so specific and can be great, I just hate that a lot of brewers make it lazily.

Imperial Pint draft at Llywelyn’s Pub in Overland Park, KS. Pour is clearish golden yellow with a very small white head. This looked very Pale lagerish in the glass. Not bad looking, just not what I expected from a Wit. Aroma is some citrus (orange and lemon), citrus peel, yeast and some ever so slight funkiness. Taste is quite bland, the elements of the nose are present, though very much in the background. The base beer itself tasted much more like a Pale Ale or Pale Lager even then a Wheat beer. As mentioned, the citrus, spice and yeast appear in the taste, but pretty far in the background. Overall, this beer was decent with food, but seemed like a bit of a cop out for the style.

Had this on tap at the Sarasota Brewing Company and I’m sorry to say this was a tastier beer than any of the beers made at that establishment. Nothing unusual, just a better, tastier version of blue moon and extremely sessionalbe. Try it, you like it.

For a wit, not the greatest offering I’ve had the pleasure of sampling. A little too aggressive for the style in my estimation...bold flavors in the way of bitter spices are prevalent in the foretaste and are not sufficiently mellowed by the sweet and citrus in the body of the beer. Overall, I love this brewery but this beer is not their greatest effort.

Bottle. What a surprise indeed! Looking at the label you might think that this is meant as a party beer? The contents of the bottle reveals a well crafted Wit! Like a stripper on a Friday, this Wit will leave you hot and bagging for more!

12 oz. bottle on 6/20/08. Hazy yellow, spare white head, lots of bubbles, little lace. Aroma of honey, peach, citrus, and light spice. Light body, lively effervescence, fairly clean palate.

Flavors are all rather subtle, a light sweet entry is followed slowly by just enough soft bitterness and spiciness to result in a barely dry finish. A summer refresher.

Sample at Alan’s HSC initation. Bottle from Howard’s Market in Tehachapi, CA. This brew is a clear yellow-gold color with a thin white head that diminishes quickly. Spots of lacing. Odd aroma of malt and vegetables at first, but it dissipates into a mild spice pretty fast. Light-bodied with a flavor akin to a Pale Lager. Light hops and spice flavor with a bit of citrus. The finish is mildly spiced with a short citrus aftertaste. Barely average overall.
