Commercial Description:
This highly hopped California style Pale Ale showcases the brewer's art of balancing malt and hop characteristics. A generous addition of Munich malts balances the bittering from Chinook hops, and Cascade hops round out the flavor profile.

Bottled. Pours an amber/brownish color. Aroma is roasty and somewhat malty. Flavor of roasted malts. Not alot of hoppiness. Bitter finish. Interesting APA.

I have to be honest, the beer I bought was on sale and at the end of its recommended life. On the other hand, it’s an IPA, so if it can survive the trip to India, it should still be alright. Anyway, I thought it tasted kind of flat and not hoppy enough. Otherwise yellowish-amber, cloudy, only faintly piney, a little butterscotchy.

Got this discounted at Sam’s quickshop because it was nearing it’s expiration date. As a result of being so old, I’m afraid what were once delicious hops had faded into a sour sort of weakness. Alas. This was the second beer in my tour of the Lost Coasts available in Durham. It was also, a good deal lighter than the pales I’m used to (particularly the Asheville Pizza Co. Pales, which are quite dark). I should reemphesize the fact that I’m pretty sure the low rating on this one is due in large part to the age of the bottle.

Pours a golden almost lager yellow, with copious head that persists throughout. Nose is fairly hoppy with hints of malts. Flavor is predominantly hoppy with some crisp mellow malt notes. I guess I’ve come to like more aggresive pale ales, this is a bit tame but damn drinkable.

Pours an orange color with a fairly generous white head. Piney and lightly citrusy aroma. Fairly well balanced taste with hops having a slightly larger presence than malt. Piney with some citrus notes. Not incredibly exciting but still a decent beer.

Yowza, this was yummy! This could quite possibly be the perfect APA in a world of average under hooped takes on this style. Perfectly belanced and agressively hopped, finish is a smack in the face of bitterness, definite pucker power.

Draft at the source which is the Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe. Very nice gold color with a white head. Solid aroma and good mouthfeel. Very well balanced. Hops are just right for an APA and it is very easy to drink. I am an IPA fan, but this one is as good as an APA can get in my opinion.

Pale gold in color with a decent, off-white head. This is the color that comprises what craft beer is all about. Not the straw-colored swill of the mega breweries, but enough color to differentiate itself but still look appetizing and quenching. Mostly soft, toffee-like caramel malt aroma and tropical hops. The Munich malt is nowhere in the aroma. Flavor is once again tropical with grapefruit, juniper berries, malt sweetness (maybe too much), and just the right smack of bitterness.
