On tap @ Cato’s in Oakland (late Dec. 2007). Pours clear brown with fairly weak head. The aroma was full of sweet raspberry fruitiness that seemed too sweet smelling to be actual fruit but likely syrup. The taste mildly supported the raspberry syrupiness noted in the nose but the flesh of the raspberry seems noticeable here too. There was also a mild malt roastiness hidden behind the fruit.

Bottle: Pours a deep mahoghany color with a small beige head. Light bits of lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty, hints of fresh raspberries. Flavor is relatively fruit-free, only slight hints of raspberry. More nutty and caramel malts. Very little bitters in the trailer. An underperformer.

Nice color, great aroma of raspberries of course, (bottle) taste was a definitive raspberry some nut and chocolate hints after you get past the fruit. Mostly smooth.

Pours deep ruby brown, creamy head. Flavor is chocolate, nutty & raspberry. The raspberry seemed artificial, like a raspberry flavored candy. The raspberry was balanced with the malts and did not overpower. Overall I thought this was good if you’re into fruit beers, which I guess I am. Needs a little more oomph somewhere to make it great.

From a 22-oz. bottle--Poured a deep dark chestnut brown body with a fluffy whitish on-finger head. Nose of big raspberry flavoring. Gritty, chewy balanced malt spine with a somewhat thin and smooth body. Smell a lot bigger than taste of berries. Nice dessert beer.
