Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev - my bottle. Poured murky deep orange-brown with a lasting creamy straw-coloured head. Mild aroma of fresh raspberry, cocoa and light hops, very malty, just a little muted. Taste is also malty and fruity, it reminds me a bit of tartuffo, but there’s a harshness in the finish I don’t care for - metal? It has pretty thick body, pretty lively. This needs way more fruit character, and I’m not convinced what I could detect of the raspberries was all that real tasting, but I found it pleasant enough - better than I expected.

"Okay am not sure what eagle was drinking, maybe it was the ice cream he was eating at the same time messing with his tastebuds. J/K. This one was not so good. Poured a brown color with nice head and laced okay. Aroma was all raspberries. the flavor was artifical raspberries tasted like medicine to me. Didn’t enjoy this one at all. "

Poured a brown color with a nice head that laced well. The aroma was mostly raspberries. The flavor was chocolate, raspberries, and some tea bags. Some nuttiness. The mouthfeel was light to moderate for a brown ale, but ok for a fruit beer. The berries were well done, not overpowering, hiding behind some chocolate and other dark malt standard flavors.

Clean, honest and pleasent tasting -- imagine dark and crusty wheat with preserves served on a blanket spread over pokey grass. This is not a wine cooler -- this is honest beer, with the attention on the dark, roasted and softly choclate hops. Fruit beer doesnt have to be fruity.

Deep, deep copper. A beautiful looking beer, indeed. Nice, off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of raspberrys and chocolate malts. Almost rasperry-truffle-esque. Quite inviting. Alas, the flavor isn’t all it could be ... an extract quality that lacks the deep complexity of fresh raspberries (a difficult fruit to use, to be sure). A decent beer.

Pours with two-finger cream head that leaves a little lace. Nice amber/mahogany color. Slight raspberry nose. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Starts mellow, hints of raspberry, smooth finish. Nice brown. $2.99 for a 22oz bottle from Liquorama Upland, Ca.

Draught from Newport Pizza and Ale. Essentially, I got talked into this one by the staff at NP&A when they first tapped it. They keep it in their regular rotation nowadays, as it is quite popular with the ladies. That is likely due to the prominent, but not overpowering raspberry flavor. I don’t know if this was originally a sour brown that the raspberry is meant to compensate for, or what. It is a peculiar beer, in that the balance of flavor characteristics leave it with almost no memorable characteristics when contemplated afterwards. For a brown, there is no prominent malt signature that I would have liked to have seen here. One would expect a beer like this to hold more weight, or be a slo-drinker. Instead it is somewhat watery, and for lack of a better word, wimpy. The only backhanded compliment that I can think to give it is that it isn’t overly anything. And if you find yourself with a full pint at five-til-closing, you can chug it without hesitation. Like the Coors Light of brown beers.

Had on tap, but only a sample, very berry raspberry as the name suggest. Faint caramel backbone and bery bery finish, nice palate. Not a big fruit beer lover but I will rate as if I did
