marcus (1053), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 9, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a foamy tan head and a bready aroma. The flavor consists of chocolate malt with a hint of raspberry, leaving a chalky brown ale taste on ones tongue.
RunDWP (180), San Jose, California, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle. The nutty and raspberry combination works pretty, but not great. Still, liked the nutty and raspberry aroma and flavor. Liked the restraint with the raspberry, it’s not too sweet, or too overpowering. Good unique change of pace beer. Butters (422), Temporarily in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 11, 2008 Bomber. Reminds me of a cocoa porter with a vegetal twist. Pours a clear mahogany with miniscule head. Milk chocolate aroma with the smallest hint of fruit. Flavor is vegetal. Bitter finish. SuperDave70 (832), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a dark reddish-brown with a foamy light head. Aroma is raspberry candy and sweet toasty malt. Flavor is dominated by the fake berries, with just a hint of the roasted malt and hops on the finish. Alright, but not great. vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 13, 2008 Dark brown with a reddish tint with a tannish head. The aroma is like raspberry cough medicine, toasted malt and light nuttiness. Medium / thin body with some sharp carbonation. The flavor starts think and watery with a touch of toasty malt and minor raspberry that comes off as fake. The finish is medicinal and astringent. This is not very good. It’s always a bit bit of warning when it says "natural raspberry flavor" ~ using the word ’flavor’ at the end strongly insinuates there is no raspberry involved with the beer and the taste backs up that assumption. NoiZe (947), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 12, 2008 Tasted @ the Loast Coast Brewery in Eureka.
Another interesting combination. Raspberry aroma and a sweet malty flavor. Some chocolate. Interesting, but glad it was a taster.
