Draft at GOBF ’08..pours dark amber, with a foamy off white head. Nose was sweet caramel, toasted malts, dark fruits, and a touch of vanilla. I wasn’t able to get any peat or smoke, but plenty of malty stickiness, sweet caramel and vanilla. Tasted more like a hoppy marzen than a scotch. The palate was sticky, syrupy, dry, and sweet. Not the first scotch ale I’d reach for, but I wouldn’t turn it down either.

Tasted @ the Loast Coast Brewery in Eureka.
Brown colored beer. Very sweet fruity aroma. Lots of sugar. Caramel, vanilla, some dry bitterness. Kinda nice.

Draft at Lucky Baldwin. A brown beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of malt and caramel as well as a light touch of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of caramel and medium notes of brown sugar, leading to a dry bitter and caramel finish. Good body.

From tap. Pours dark brown with small redish glare. Roasted malt and slight hoppy spiced aroma. Flavour starts spiced hoppy but also holds a slight roasted malt base. Goes quite bitter and hoppy into the finish.

draft @ redlight redlight. Malty nose with some caramel and figs. Pours a dark amber almost brown with reddish tints on the sides with a thick off white head. Very smooth and creamy with dark fruits like dates and dried figs and dried berries coverd with caramel, with some spicy notes. I wish i could get more smokiness out of it but over all its a very sweet beer.

Draft at GOBF ’08. Poured a hazy brown color with a small foamy off white head. The aroma is of rich caramel malts, dark fruit, some vanilla, and a touch of smoke. The flavor is of caramel malts, vanilla, some chocolate, and maybe a hint of smoke. Medium bodied mouthfeel that is easy to drink and leads to a sweet caramel, almost syrup finish. Pretty solid scotch ale from these guys, and I would definitely drink it again if I see it on tap.

Draft at GOBF ’08. Pours a lightly hazy auburn color with a foamy, beige colored head. The aroma shows rich, malty caramel with a light smokiness that does not come off as peaty. Vanilla and a touch of chocolate are present as well, along with a faint, earthy hop character. Flavors continue the theme, dominated by sweet caramel and lightly smoked, slightly salty malts. Not much peat going on. The smoke component seems to come from some alternative source. Not much in the way of hops going on either, making for a sweet drink overall. Medium-full bodied and lightly syrupy, but easy to drink. The finish fades quickly and cleanly. Overall, not that bad. Middle of the road, enjoyable Scotch Ale.

Pours a murky, cloudy, dark brown/maroon, with a small light tan head. Smells kind of sweet, with a noticeable vanilla presence to go along with the dark fruit and malts. Kind of dug the nose. Alot of caramel malt, vanilla, and dark fruit comprise most of the flavor characters here. Pretty standard scotch ale in the taste, but certainly solidly done. A little bit woodsy in the finish and then leaves a sweet fruity aftertaste. Not bad.
