On tap at the the brewpub in Eureka, CA. Came in a 12 oz glass and was rich copper color with light tan head and moderate lacing, Nose is caramel malts and floral and piney hops. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Flavor has as nice hoppy bitterness and a little roasted malts, and the finish has a nice bitterness. An exceptionally easy to drink Scotch Ale, and the alcohol is hidden nicely.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins. Dark brown with a creamy white head. Mild chocolate and spice aroma. Malty musty old ale taste with a lingering bitterness.

On tap at Newport Pizza and Ale. Pours a deep rusty amber hue. The aroma was somewhat mild with a slight hint of brown sugar. The taste was nice with caramel malts and was balanced well with some spicyness in the middle. The hops kicks in a little more towards the end and the finish is clean and fresh, not my favorite type of beer but this was acually really good~

On tap at the Oldsmar Tap House. Served up cold in the tumbler with clear deep copper body, tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is faint (thanks to the serving temperature) with semi sweet roasted malts and little else. The taste is in stark contrast to the nose with big brash bold roasty. I get malt sweetness and rich malt roastiness meeting up with some fruity esters. A pine hop bitterness builds along with the roastiness masking some of the sharp pine flavor leaving an increasingly near vague hop bitterness into the finish. The beer is too heavy on the fruity esters with a nearly cherry cough syrup experience by mid glass consumption.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a dark ruby red, with a creamy head, and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is pretty tame. Caramel, some standard malt overtones. Not a lot going on here. Flavor is pretty disappointing, too. Very weak. Big on malt with caramel, distant. No hops at all. Little molasses, but it doesn’t really save anything. Drinkable only due to the weak nature of it, but the alcohol is fairly hidden.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House : Dark brown clear pour. Big 2 finger white rocky head, with great lacing. Roasted caramel nose, sweet. Taste is roasted malt, sweet candy. Clean finish and aftertaste, with a medium body. Pretty good.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light cream-colored head. Slight citrus aroma with caramel. Caramel, citrus, and light earth flavor. Medium body. Lingering caramel, rich malt, light citrus. Nice malt flavorwithout overpowering. Good beer.

On tap at Churchill’s pub. Drank with Andy and Liz, beer-brewing beer-geek couple. I double checked the entry with BA. 8.5%. Small head. Interesting small bubble lacing clings to the side of the glass as I swirl. I love to watch it. The formed bubbles on the liquid remind me of the Mikkeller Black Hole label...Red Hole. Would that be a good name for a beer? Maybe the bubbles on the surface gave Mikkeller the idea for the name. Aroma has little hops and medium-to-strong caramelized malt aroma that I love. Is it melanoidal malt? Deep amber color. Taste leans towards the sweet side. Small pleasant bite and togue puckering. Malty and low hop bitterness. No off flavors. Nice red ale!
