Draft. Mahogony beer with a light cream-colored head. Slight citrus aroma with caramel. Caramel, citrus, and light earth flavor. Medium body. Lingering caramel, rich malt, light citrus. Nice malt flavorwithout overpowering. Good beer.

On tap at the the brewpub in Eureka, CA. Came in a 12 oz glass and was rich copper color with light tan head and moderate lacing, Nose is caramel malts and floral and piney hops. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Flavor has as nice hoppy bitterness and a little roasted malts, and the finish has a nice bitterness. An exceptionally easy to drink Scotch Ale, and the alcohol is hidden nicely.

On tap at Churchill’s pub. Drank with Andy and Liz, beer-brewing beer-geek couple. I double checked the entry with BA. 8.5%. Small head. Interesting small bubble lacing clings to the side of the glass as I swirl. I love to watch it. The formed bubbles on the liquid remind me of the Mikkeller Black Hole label...Red Hole. Would that be a good name for a beer? Maybe the bubbles on the surface gave Mikkeller the idea for the name. Aroma has little hops and medium-to-strong caramelized malt aroma that I love. Is it melanoidal malt? Deep amber color. Taste leans towards the sweet side. Small pleasant bite and togue puckering. Malty and low hop bitterness. No off flavors. Nice red ale!

Backlog from GOBF. Amber body, nice and clear. Caramel and malt make the smell of this beer. Taste the malt and you just might see, why beer means so much to me. Drink up.

On tap, Thirsty Monk, Asheville. Dark brown, big beige head. Chocolate, vanill, boozy aroma. Very rich. Breay, like maybe pumpernickel or something, with Chocolatre notes, too. Some bourbon, maybe? Nice and tasty.

Draft @ Lost Coast. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty spicy aroma with some peaty hints. Sweetish malty warming spicy flavor with hints of caramel and vanilla. Has a long warming malty spicy caramel finish.

Pours a murky, cloudy, dark brown/maroon, with a small light tan head. Smells kind of sweet, with a noticeable vanilla presence to go along with the dark fruit and malts. Kind of dug the nose. Alot of caramel malt, vanilla, and dark fruit comprise most of the flavor characters here. Pretty standard scotch ale in the taste, but certainly solidly done. A little bit woodsy in the finish and then leaves a sweet fruity aftertaste. Not bad.

Draft at GOBF ’08. Poured a hazy brown color with a small foamy off white head. The aroma is of rich caramel malts, dark fruit, some vanilla, and a touch of smoke. The flavor is of caramel malts, vanilla, some chocolate, and maybe a hint of smoke. Medium bodied mouthfeel that is easy to drink and leads to a sweet caramel, almost syrup finish. Pretty solid scotch ale from these guys, and I would definitely drink it again if I see it on tap.
