scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Nov 9, 2009 Must be last year’s. Dark toffee color, suspended sediment, stubborn tan head, creamy and clinging to the glass. Spicy caramel aroma. Kind of weak bodied and absent in flavor, it’s all in the back of my throat and vanished elsewhere on my palate. There’s a nutty/dusty finish and I don’t think that time or travel works here. troopie (851), USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle. Poured dark red brown with thick off white head. Faint chocolate and malt aroma. Light body, with a bit of roast nuts, a bit of caramel in the flavour. Mild spicy finish neepsntatties (281), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle Colour... deep reddish amber. Nose... faint malt. Palate... frothy, tangy, sweet malt, light spice and cola with a lingering tanginess. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 12, 2009 Thanks Hayduke! Pours the color of maple syrup with a nice frothy tan head than hangs around nicely. Aroma is subtle with roasted with just a smidge of caramel. Flavor very nice. Roasted malt, light chocolate, and a nice hop profile. The hops provide a nice edge and a lasting bitter aftertaste. A bit of spiciness. I found this beer to be better than its parts. Well crafted. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Near black, low head. Burnt malt aroma: chocolate, coffee, caramel. Well roasty malt. Dense malt flavor, with chocolate and coffee. Rather sweet, but not overdone. Slightly fruity, nutty. Finish of roasted malt, alcohol, a bit sweet, light on the hops. A nice, stout-like beer. Not amazingly original, but good and well balanced.
jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Aug 11, 2009 Bottle. Rich brown ale. Good looking beer with a dark brown body with a frothy, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, roasted grain, bread and herbs. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter and lightly acidic. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. As rich as this is, it is way too sweet, bordering on being cloying. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2009 Crap label but good beer.
Super dark red / brown (nice colour) beer with a small, smooth brown cap that quickly goes to rim only, pretty fine lacing though! The aroma is comprised of dark fruits, dark powerful caramel, notable fall season spices, a hidden chocolate and weak coffee mix, sweet plum - just smells thick all around. The hops try to make the first impression but fizzle out to the big, roasty mix of malts, good malts, slightly sweet, slight spice - maybe licorice - pretty nice overall. Fairly smooth with good carbonation, medium to medium full bodied, good faint spice blended in with tasty malts for the finish. Man, that label sucks. Cirrhosis (610), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 15, 2009 First off name is stupid and the label is horrid it looks like buddies eyeball is about to explode. Baa enough about the stupid label lets drink. Very dark brown body with a very tall tan cap looks good way better than this shitty, poopy, crappy, ill-conceived diarrhea stain of art work stuck on the side of the bottle. Bitter slightly soapy aroma, mild hop, some chocolate. Aroma is subpar, actually it sucks. Taste is way better the aroma. Very smooth rich and malty. Lots of plain chocolate that gives way to a mildly bitter finish. Melon hops possibly pine, nope its melon. Feel is full yet light carbonation is ok maybe a little soft. Taste is getting sweeter the warmer the beer gets. Getting to sweet?? Hops are present in each and every sip but not over the top letting the smooth nutty malts dominate what is perfect. A good quality brew above average but why did it smell so bad?
