A very dark brown colour with tints of ruby red. Just a thin, tan film for a head. Aroma was of roasted millet. Nice flavour with hints of roasted chocolate but nothing special. Head died quickly. Nice roasty aroma. Flavor has an tangy bitterness right away that chisels away at the roof of your mouth, before the expected toasty brown ale flavors settle down the gullet ... toast, brown sugar, bitter baking chocolate. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Bottle from Papago in May or June 07. Thought this was a rich porter or stout, much more character than a typical, even higher octane brown ale. Pour was brown, reddish, nice initial head with good retention, decent lacing. The aroma was rich chocolate, molasses, some roast. The flavor was roasted chocolate, molasses, licorice, definite spicey character in the finish, and a firm and lingering roasty light hop bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel was full for a brown ale, silky smooth, very nice stuff, although more like a porter, even a porter-baltic cross to me. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Bottled sample via presario. Dark brown in colour with moderate carbonation. Malty aroma with a hints of fruit, chocolate, and licorice. Quite rich in the mouth, with an interesting blend of milk chocolate and sweet malts. A little bit of spice creeps in on the finish. Sort of like a cross between a porter and a bock. I’m not a big fan of this style, but I’m quite enjoying this particular sample. Icommonsewer (122), TUCSON, Arizona, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2007 6 pack in Vegas. Deep reddish brown with a good creamy head. Aroma starts with chocolate and licorice. As it sits spice and molasses scents emerge. Body and dark malt are almost bock like. Rich, full and sweet. The taste is most like the settled scent, molasses and spice. TipsyMcStager (928), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2007 Aroma of chocolate and licorice. Pours opaque black, no head. Chocolate, roastiness, caramel and a dry finish. More porter like than a brown ale.
