| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 6, 2007 in bottle, consumed on the 4th of July, with a lingering sulphur smell in the humid air. Dark brown color with a tan head. Malty nose, cocoa flavor, with some grassy hops thrown in just to confuse things. I imagined that I tasted cherries, but I think that was a Christmas in July delusion. If I was duplicting this as homebrew, I would rethink the hop selection. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 27, 2007 Pours clear deep amber and initially with one inch light brown head. The head was a thin ring in about a minute or so. The aroma starts off light with hints of roasted malts and some sweetness. The aroma remains too light even after it warmed. The taste is roasted malts and sweet molasses. There’s also a light hint of dark chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Pretty tasty with no flavor faults but maybe a little understated for a Winter type brew. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a medium well retained light brown head. Smells of some light chocolate, a little roast and dark malts. All fairly mild. Taste is lightly sweet, good roasty malts and nuts in the taste. A little bit light on the body, I think this beer would be better with a little more to it. Light roasty chocolate in the finish. Pretty good session brown ale. Nothing fantastic, but decent. joefflin (66), USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 31, 2007 Updated: Jun 3, 2007From a Variety 6 pack from World Market, 12oz bottle. A decent brew, i believe its my first brown ale, the smell reminded me of an IPA, or maybe just sierra nevada’s pale ale. It looks nice, a nice ruby chocolate, and thin brown head that leaves a small amount of lacing. Nothing extraordinary, but decent. BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 26, 2007 This is a nice brown ale with substantial bock-like malt sweetness and some chocolate roast flavor. Pretty good.
This beer pours a dark red-brown with fairly good head formation. Aroma is somewhat chocolate-y with a bit of Saaz hop aroma Flavor is rather sweet and malty that I found rather bock-like, with a bit of chocolate roastiness. Mouthfeel was nothing unusual, but maybe a bit harsh in its carbonation. Recommended, but nothing to write home about. GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2007 22 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA. Poured a clear ruby brown color. Head was thick and light tan with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of milk chocolate and malted milk balls. No significant sweetness on the tongue. On the one hand it tasted pretty good...a bit of chocolate, nuts, and noble hops...on the other it reminded me a little of cola from time to time. mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA
