chocolate brown appearance, with prominent licorice and hops and malt in the nose. Hoppy in front, then maltiness, including cocoa and spice like nutmeg in finish. Bit of bitterness in aftertaste. A nice one. Good mouthfeel for a well carbonated beverage.

Pours a clear brown color with a thick light brown head. Aroma of malt and brown sugar. Flavor of malt and brown sugar with a bitter finish. The body is light with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Decent enough to earn a 3.

Big malt nose with a slight touch of oxidation and this from a fresh bottle. Nutty and roasted with some iced tea and caramel notes. Ever so slightly malt astringent on the palate with roasted and toasted characters. Finish is soft wet paper and and mildly acidic.

Reddish brown color with a fizzy light tan head that quickly diminishes. Aroma is raison-like and a bit tangy. Flavor is typical brown... a little light, but nicely malty and easy to drink. The flavor is a touch on the light side, but still enjoyable. Some hops noticeable, but not out of character for a brown. Session stuff.

(Bottle) Purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, NY. Pours a craomy, cloudy tan head with a deep copper body. Nose of roasted nuts and malt. Flavour of strong chocolate, caramel extract, toffee and vanilla-y finish. Good but perhaps overrated as a Brown Ale?

Bottle. Poured a deep chestnut brown with a spattering of beige head and lots of sediment. Nose was surprisingly hoppy... with floral and pine over the top of nutty, chocolate, and caramel maltage. Flavor was malt-centric... with chocolate and light tobacco primarily... and the hops provided a light bitterness at the edges. Cola-like on the palate, and at no point felt good or complementary to the flavors. Finish found the spicy Saaz and carried through chocolate, nuttiness, and astringency from the flavor department.

Chestnut color with ruby tints and a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is malty, nutty, and has hints of roasted barley and toffee. Full bodied, especially for a brown ale. Semi sweet malts, nuts, light toffee, some bitter roasted barley notes and a hint of coffee in the finish. Not too bad.

Pours midnight brown w/ a medium sized, short lived semi creamy froth. Aromas of roasted malts and maple hops. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. A dry, roasty ale w/ a moderate malted backbone. Coffee flavors and slight tobacco on the finish. Finish is bittered nicely. Overall: a good brew.
